The solution is to have a system where you youths as well as adults have purpose. We have a very small island with a huge housing in infrastructure demand. The re insurance business demands a huge labor force in certain lines of work: accountants, actuaries, attorneys. (I don’t like to use the word “skilled” because each job - trade or professional is “skilled”). The demands have made the ability to have a home, even for rent impossible. The answer to this is not rent control however. This results in a lack of purpose.
To provide purpose the Government seems to have made some strides : Tourism is a key, the Southampton Princess, the recent Elbow development can provide the type of industries with less housing demands (eg. Services : transportation, hospitality, etc).

I am sure Government will seize on this opportunity and do their part:

Projects like repairing gems that support the local and tourists:
The rail tracks, roads,
Botanical Gardens ( was beautiful at one time, it is still an amazing place but because of meeting and talking to fellow Bermudians when I am home for a visit)
Trash pick ups back to twice a week vs once (nothing worse than trash build up in a tourist destination)
Life guards

Discipline is needed, lets get incentives offered; eg joining the Bermuda Regiment is a key and can offer programs: Life Guard classes, fitness drills, transport services, building services

I find that the advice I give is : “When you are in neutral you are in reverse” - Government has the ability to give people the ability to get in to “first and move forward”

I am more than willing to have my tax dollars working on the above, its all about priority of expenditure.

The “root causes” need a remedy and I hope some of my comments are helpful
