During WW11 Boaz island was used as an air base where sea bi planes would go out to spot “U” boats, the planes would radio back the submarines locations , Small ships from the Dockyard would go out to sink the subs with under water bombs.

Other uses for Boaz island were for accommodation most of which if not all have been demolished by W. & E. those homes were use for the Dockyard civil employees and also the British Army.

Woodies still stands to day , in the past was used as a food supply store some of which was rationed. it was hard going then ,also we got around on pedal bikes and the Corona .

Life then was not easy then as it is to today.

Bermuda is being slowly becoming, or faster than many may think a state of congestion.

Brendon Hollis, surely must have given many accounts of the activities on Boaz island relating to the hundreds of people who lived there.

Todats planned building program will not come cheep , the after effects of maintenance and if insured will be colossal . If rented.

There is a huge difference between container homes, mobile home and modular homes. With those differences comes costs.

A container home is not a modular home. A modular home is far nicer, and much more expensive, than a modular home. An assembled modular home will look much like a typical sticks and bricks N American home once assembled.

Either the Government is playing a game of deception or they really don’t know the difference of one home type to another.

The OBA came in, found even the current account broke, yet in one term got projects underway that the PLP could only talk about doing for 14 years. AC35 was the star ontop of the tree. The biggest sporting event ever held in Bermuda.

When they changed their plans and decided to vacate Bermuda the UBP took it over , but it was never originally a housing initiative started by the government of the day .

Actually, Monach-Preco built the homes at Boaz Island Village. It did so for Boaz Island Development Company.

Its a done deal isnt it? Why now try and educate and inform the public and neighbours AFTER construction has started? Why bother, the hall will be filled the regular friends and family of the ministers and other cheerleaders that are just there for support and praise.

I know I would be very nervous living in one of those homes during a lightning storm! I trust the units will be grounded and there will be other measures in place to prevent someone being hurt, but it would stillbe a hell no for me. I still cant understand why they are trying to reinvent the wheel. Concrete , brick and slate have proven to be very effective over time.

Oh well, they say there is one born every day.

Proper construction which has survived general wear and tear and numerous hurricanes. Now the PLP want to provide containers. At least they seem to have learnt their lesson with Grand Atlantic that they should not get involved in real estate development.
A prime example again of how Bermuda has progressed (not) under the PLP.
