Kim,

Most democratic legislatures consist of two chambers.

In England it is the House of Commons and House of Lords. In Canada it is the House of Commons and Senate. In the United States it is the House of Representatives and the Senate.

The original idea of the “Upper House”, our Senate, was, like the House of Lords in England, a place for mature consideration after the political argy bargy of the “Lower House”.

Sadly, our Senate is now used by some not as a place for mature consideration, but as a training ground for potential MPs.

I wish I understood better the role and value of the Senate (?Upper House?) versus the House (?Lower House?), especially in the Bermudian context.

Is there anyone out there who would be willing to provide some education to our community so that we can come to know the value and impact of our vote and support… and people power, or lack thereof?
