Pertinent questions. Watch Minister DeSilva deflect, squirm and throw a screaming fit in the HOA.

DeSilva is great at announcing grand stuff and making promises on delivery on such promises. Actual delivery on those promises, not so much.

There is one excuse after another. One delay after another. Prime example: Where are the cubicle homes promised for availability in February 7 months ago? They sit at Morgans Point somewhere, possibly victims of vandals by now. These things arrived, late, months ago all ready to be plugged into utilities and used. The site is not ready. Why? It is now almost a year since DeSilva announced them, with his usual great fanfare. A year to get permits and prepare the site.

These park model trailer homes have a lifespan of maybe 20 years with normal maintenance and care. Much less the way our Government takes care of things and the way the tenants are likely to abuse them.

How long before the first keys are turned over to the first couples? These are NOT family sized homes.

“the Bermuda Affordable Housing Strategy is looking to build 974 housing units at a cost of approximately $418.5 million”

We know that the 94 low cost housing at Grand Atlantic/Bermudiana Beach cost over $100,000,000 to build.

How on earth can anyone believe that the PLP Government will build more than 10 times as many units for less than half that cost?

“We will ensure that corporate income tax revenues are used responsibly, ... reducing Bermuda’s debt.”

That will be a pleasant surprise. Bermuda’s nearly $4 Billion debt has only increased over the past 20 odd years.

If the PLP Government did not pay so much in interest on our debt, it would have more available money for the social programmes it wants to deliver.

Isn't it obvious? The results of the comprehensive epidemiological review were: 42.

Just remember the Ministry of Health's "comprehensive epidemiological review" of COVID-19.

Ebola is very nasty. It was confined to a small region until The WHO came in to help, and then it spread. Go figure.

I just checked Ebola Outbreak 2026: Official Map & Tracker
webpage.
2 recent official Ebola outbreak updates from WHO, Africa CDC, US CDC and ECDC. Last sync: 2026-09-17. For official case counts always consult WHO and your local health authority.

Clicked on the "Recent official updates" - two updates from The WHO -
"This page cannot be found"
"The page or file you are trying to access cannot be found. This is because the web address is incorrect or the file has been moved or deleted."

CDC webpage Ebola Outbreak: Current Situation
- This outbreak is spreading substantially faster than previous Ebola outbreaks and is now the second-largest Ebola outbreak on record.

- The outbreak is caused by Bundibugyo virus, a type of Ebola virus.

>>> This Ebola outbreak surpassed 1,000 confirmed cases within 40 days of response activation. In comparison, the 2018 Ebola outbreak in DRC took approximately 235 days to reach more than 1,000 cases.<<<

Reported cases
This is a rapidly evolving situation, and case counts are subject to change.
The DRC, Uganda, and France ministries of health (MOH) report the following:

DRC (as of Sep 12, 2026)
Confirmed cases 7200
Confirmed deaths 3475
Probable cases 0
Probable deaths 0

Uganda (as of Sep 13, 2026)
Confirmed cases 20
Confirmed deaths 2
Probable cases 1
Probable deaths 1

France (as of Sep 13, 2026)
Confirmed cases 1
Confirmed deaths 0
Probable cases 0
Probable deaths 0

Totals
Confirmed cases 7221
Confirmed deaths 3477 / 7221 = 48.15% fatality rate.
Probable cases 1
Probable deaths 1

As always, spot on with observations of the Government - attempting to appear relevant.

I was thinking the same. THese guys already get a free almost unlimited legal advice, legal representation, a place to stay, three meals, free healthcare, free dental, optical, councelling, and if they want it a free college / university level education all paid by us!

Meanwhile the victim(s) get nothing. When there is theft involved or damagge done to someones person or property, the crimimal does not have to return, replace, or repair do they. They dont even have to say sorry! The victim is stuck with the scars (physical & mental), bills or loss. Does a victim get free healthcare, dental, transportation like the criminal? Nope? Do victims get free education? Don't even get me started on support how the families and friends of deceased victims pf crimes are forced to stand by and see articles and news clips showing all the perks that theses criminals are given by the government, the churches and the community. Prison should be uncomfortable enough that it becomes a deterent not a path to a better life than your victim.

Im so sick of this pampering and yay parading of those that commit crimes and are trying "to better themselves"! Meanwhile, do the right thing and be a law abiding, tax paying citizen and see what this same government get you when you need it?

That is the problem: most Bermudians do not know the rules. Yellow line means no overtaking (unless a stationary car, pedal cycle, horse or maintenance vehicle, when they are going REALLY slow). Below:

From the Bermuda Traffic Code Handbook (2015):

LINES AND LANE MARKINGS IN THE ROAD
Solid yellow line: This means you SHOULD NOT cross or straddle it, unless it is safe and you need to enter adjoining premises or a side road. You may cross the line if necessary to pass a stationary vehicle, or overtake a pedal cycle, horse or road maintenance vehicle, if they are traveling at 15 Km/h or less You MUST NOT wait or park opposite a yellow line

The PLP Government has told e-bike riders that they have 6 weeks (until 31 October) in which to regularise matters.

“Investment in construction increased 8.1% year-over-year during the first quarter”.

Sorry, Minister. Once again, your understanding of economic statistics is flawed.

The statement you have just made does not distinguish between new construction and necessary maintenance.

We know from the condition of Government House and Montpelier that the PLP Government does not understand the concept of preventive maintenance, but people in private industry do understand that concept.

If you want to be forthright with the people, remove the cost of preventive maintenance from the statistics and what is left will be money expended on new construction. You may not like that statistic, but at least it will be accurate.

TCD has published the new rules for bikes. Apparently all bikes (even low power that require pedaling to drive the motor) will require motorcycle helmets (plus registration, inspection, insurance). I (and I suspect many people) ride my bike for exercise, not getting to work. I ride hard and wearing a heavy motorcycle helmet will be far too hot to be feasible (likely dangerous due to over heating). So I guess my bike is now junk because I cannot ride it. I don't mind the other 3 requirements but the helmet rule is not well thought out.

"Well, once upon a time the majority of the population DID respond to the threat of financial penalties for traffic infractions and there’s probably still many that do."

Once upon a time the Bermuda Police Service enforced the traffic laws consistently. Everyone knew that driving at a speed in excess of 30 miles an hour (50 km/h) would result in a fine and driving at a speed in excess of 35 miles an hour (60 km/h) would result in a suspension of driving privileges. Being convicted twice in a 3 year period would result in a 6 month suspension of driving privileges even if the second offence alone would not result in suspension of driving privileges.

More than 20 years now the Bermuda Police Service ceased enforcing Bermuda’s traffic laws and those few offenders brought before the courts have been treated leniently.

There is a deliberate policy decision underlying the current state of affairs.
