The facts and data speak for themselves, a large portion will re-offend and cost us a great deal of more money. This facility will give former inmates some much needed stability as they transition.
I concur, there should be time limits set for individuals to be housed, if there are possibilities for them to find alternative accommodations.
Decisions have to be made to stem the revolving door at Westgate for so many former/inmates. Yes, the general population have their problems with adequate housing, but we as a country have to do something to provide an alternative to living on the streets or the trend will continue.
This is a step in the right direction and, we need to give it a chance to determine if the input provide a meaningful output.

Odd, since the daily average occupancy at Westgate is less than 50%, why not set aside some of that empty space to transition instead of the additional cost of “free” housing? Separate from the prison population, provide a separate exit/entry from the prison, etc.

A prisoner costs us about $100,000 a year to keep at Westgate. Think about it. That is over $2,000 per week, over $8,000 per month of public money.

Now this Government is going to house them after release from prison in very nice accommodation and do it for how long and at what cost?

Nice gig. There must be a better way of dealing with the miscreants of the island.

Go figure. We pay for criminals to be pampered in prison, then when they get released they get free housing that is nicer than most Bermudians get who actually work and dont commit crimes. Feels like we live in the twilight zone…i mean if you had told us you would give them trophies it would be less of an insult. At least a trophy might only cost $100.

Good Day My fellow Bermudians,

I recognize as a born Bermudian with family connections in the Caribbean I would like to share my concerns, for those of you who don’t realize this we have just last month officially come out of slavery last month, by the power of of the USA Government. This was announced in May 2026.

I to was very surprised thinking I was a free person, however it was discovered recently we were put backed into slavery this time it was half the world through the system of the Cabal powers they have achieved since President Kennedy’s death into todays politics, and no one knew it. It stared out with the change of a GOLD Backed currency To a Fiat currencies introduce by the business community a monetary system, that had no value.

The businessman of that day decided they wanted to control the world a desire they had from the sinking of the Titanic, as three busines men aboard here was against it, there was other events of people today who have killed people for the same reason. Today just last month they almost finalize their goal, and was blocked by the Trump Administration. Their goal was to overtake the world enslaving all people under a certain financial racket. My question is why do we want join other countries when it should a natural desire to help each other any way. Plus we need to take time out decide if we want to separate and still do what is right.

Finally if one just got a divorce why would one be anxious to get married so soon again.

Whether Bermuda retains its visa free status or not is not up to Bermuda. That privilege can be taken away overnight and the US does not have to give a reason at all.

It will be bye bye to US pre clearance in Bermuda and hello to long lines at US Border Protection at the gateway airports. No more strolling off the plane, grabbing your bags and out the door into the USA you go. No more arriving at a US domestic gate for a stroll to the next domestic gate for your connecting flight. Get in that long line for US immigration first. No more quick layovers.

How about it, is Caricom worth the risk of losing the pre clearance convenience?

That should have been it. Not a word based on a comprehensive review of why these accidents are happening weekly. You rarely see police on patrol or radar. So the road is wide open to everything from the use of your cellphone, while driving, to the new 3rd lane of bikes. We have been told we need 10,000 more workers. Assuming you will get at least 2,000 more cars and 2,000 more bikes we will have some really serious issues. But we will do it the Bermuda way…we close our blinds 20 mins before a hurricane strikes….we see a housing shortage and wait until we run out.We build an award winning hospital with huge areas of open space when rooms are needed. You can’t make this stiff up. Messing up and smashing up is not good.

The problem is not new, MADDOG. It has been going on for years.

Much of the damage caused by Hurricane Emily in 1987 was because of foliage that had not been appropriately trimmed back.

I read this contribution with interest and particularly the call for further and greater intervention.

So many are literally dumped in the hospital and the interest from the family members dwindle down to zero. Many have the houses, accounts and property signed over to them as a safeguard, but almost immediately the parents become “excess baggage” and a burden, despite them in charge of all financial assets.

These family members receive pension cheques on behalf of the seniors but use the money like a personal bank account. They should NOT receive or be in charge of these funds which should be put in a separate account strictly for the hospitalized person

If your property line / wall / fence is on the roadside – you should be responsible for keeping that roadside clear and trimmed back – if everyone did their little bit it would help ALOT. Dunscombe Road gets overgrown very quickly especially on a few of the sharp corners – 2 cars cannot pass without driving into overgrown bushes….Gov crew was there last year and did a great job (THANK YOU!) – but it does not last long. PLEASE can you help clear your property line – I go through there every morning and have to break branches and pull up vines and bushes sprouting from the road – a few owners are very diligent – quite a few are not. Everyone thanks you!

Surely Pest Off should be avoided in this situation, at all costs.
There are safer alternatives; Mr Adams & his team have chosen 2 of several.
An average removal of 1300 chickens per month equals 43 per day, including 2 in traps provided to members of the public. Keep up the good removal of chickens only, without knowingly & severely damaging the health of our people & livestock. Thankyou.
