Bruce Alexander Kirkland

It is with deep and heavy sadness that we announce the death of Bruce Alexander Kirkland who passed away on October 26th in Denver, Colorado. Bruce was born in Morristown, NJ in 1934 and lived in Morristown/New Vernon half of his life. He went to Middlesex School in Concord MA and McGill University, in Montreal, Canada. Bruce moved his family and his company, the H.R. Kirkland Company Inc., to Colorado in 1980, a company he was so proud and passionate about. Colleagues would describe him as a pioneer in the Fire Alarm industry. In the 1950s, the company provided fire alarm and paging systems to the old fire house and hospital He was very active in his life, volunteering for the New Vernon Fire Department, President of the Morristown Field Club, an avid squash player, paddle tennis player, tennis player, a skier and a sailor. Bruce was also an animal lover, with wildlife, horses and dogs always an important part of his life. He is preceded in death by his wife Cynthia Berkley Kirkland and step-daughter Melissa Pearson. Loving father to Tricia Lombardo, Melissa Pearson, Debbie Pollock, Laurie Von Zweck and Honey Hutchinson. Proud grandfather to Samantha, Zoe, Phillip, Audrey, Bella and Alex. Bruce was a cherished brother to Joan, Bobby, Nancy and Malcolm. Bruce leaves numerous nephews, nieces and cousins in the USA and Bermuda including Kirk Cooper and the late Peter Cooper. Bruce will be remembered by family and friends as a loving father and devoted husband, with a wonderful amazing soul, a warm sense of humor and a huge smile.
A service celebrating his life will be held Friday, December 1st, 2017 at 2:00 p.m., St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Paget. Bermuda was his second home growing up and a very special place to him.
