[AMIS Memorial Chapel & Crematory]

It’s with heavy hearts that we announce the death of John Stephen [Steve] Dunleavy [June 24, 1946], beloved and devoted father of his loving children Sean Dunleavy [Neera], Christian Dunleavy [Michelle], and Katherine Cupidore [Anthony] and their mother Susan Dunleavy. Steve was an immensely proud and adoring grandfather of Eleanor, Jay, Robin, Olivia, and Asha Dunleavy, Stella and Sebastian Cupidore. He is survived by his sister Irene Coward [Neil], cousin Bernard, and many other cousins, nieces, nephews, and countless other friends from organisations including the Bermuda Police Service [BPS], Meals on Wheels, The Bermuda Red Cross, Warwick Workmen’s Club, Old Colony Club, and Mariners Club. He is pre-deceased by beloved friends Mervyn Willey, Ron LaCastra, and Norman Rochester, godfather to Katherine Cupidore. Steve will be dearly missed and fondly remembered.

Serving in the BPS from 1968, Steve retired as a Sergeant in 1997. He loved Bermuda and its people deeply. Well-known in snooker circles, Steve played for Warwick Workmen’s Club, was five-time Bermuda singles champion [‘86, ‘88, ‘89, ‘92, ‘93], three-time doubles champion in the 80s with partner Andy Wright and represented Bermuda many times at the International Snooker League. An avid sportsman in his younger years, he played football for the Police, cricket, and squash. Steve was a committed and active volunteer until the end of his life, particularly with The Bermuda Red Cross and more recently Meals on Wheels.

In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation in his memory to Meals on Wheels, CATs Bermuda, or The Bermuda Red Cross [including a blood donation].

Steve’s family invite his many friends to a celebration of his very full life at the Royal Hamilton Amateur Dinghy Club on Sunday, 7th January, 2024 from 4PM. Join us for one more toast to Steve and to share our many stories. Please wear bright Bermuda colours, particularly pink, but no red [if you know, you know].
