It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Leo “Mr. C” Manuel Custodio, of #5 Jennings Bay Road, Southampton who left us peacefully in his 98th year on February 20th, 2025. A kind, generous, and deeply loved man, Leo touched the lives of many, and his warmth and wisdom will be profoundly missed.

Leo’s faith was the foundation of his life. He was a devoted member of his church community, Calvary Gospel Chapel, finding great joy and strength in his faith.

Leo was also known for his impeccable sense of style. A true gentleman, he took pride in always being the best-dressed wherever he went. His love for fashion extended beyond his own wardrobe—he was well known for his clothing store, Custodio’s, where he shared his passion for affordable clothing with the community. His eye for quality and elegance left a lasting impression on all who knew him. His infectious smile and firm handshake welcomed many into his stores.

Leo’s passion for golf made him a beloved figure in the golfing world, where his presence and sportsmanship will be greatly missed. He was the founder of the Bermuda Junior Golf Association, dedicating himself to nurturing young talent in the sport he loved. In recognition of his contributions to sports, particularly golf, Leo was honoured on December 31st, 2011, by Queen Elizabeth II with the Certificate of Honour—a testament to his lifelong dedication and impact on the game. Beyond the greens, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great grandfather whose love and kindness created a legacy that will endure through generations.

Leo is the son of the late Angelina [Frank] Blasi. He is survived by his loving wife of 75 years, Katherine, his sisters Phoebe[Joseph] Simons[BDA], and his U.S. sisters and brother Madeline[Bill], Joan[Malcolm], Barbara[Jerry], Jimmy[Janis], his cherished children Donna Batista, Robert [Annette] Custodio, and Troy Custodio, and his adoring grandchildren Natalia Batista-Ward [Kirk], Amanda Batista, Kristina Pimental [Nelson], Tara Montgomery[Greg], Caitlyn, Camille[Isaac], Connor[Tory], Sadie, Will and Molly Custodio. Leo was also blessed with great-grandchildren Logan, Bayley [Whey], Reagan, Nola, Rio, Lelani, Keaton and Hollyn, and great great granddaughter Alexis all who brought him great joy. Leo leaves behind special nephew and niece Maurice [Debbie] Simons and Mary [Raymond] Gaglio, along with many other nieces, nephews and cousins. Best friends Jimmy and Natalie Madeiros. Special friends Troy and Carol Hassell, Edward Oliveira, Richard and Timmy Farge.

A service to honour and celebrate Leo’s life will be held at Evangelical Church, Paget, Bermuda on Saturday, March 29th, 2025 at 2:00pm. Colours may be worn.

Leo’s kindness, generosity, and unwavering faith will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him. Though he may be gone from our sight, his spirit will live on in the countless lives he touched.
