Brenda Elizabeth Spearing [née McLaren] passed away peacefully on Monday, January 12th. Born on December 10th, 1940, in Durham, England, she was the beloved daughter of Alexander and Margarita McLaren. Brenda moved to Bermuda in her twenties, where she met and married Alfred Geoffrey Spearing in 1968. She is lovingly remembered by her children, Alexander, Clare [Paul], and James [Jonathan], and by her cherished grandchildren Brody and Violet, who were the light of her later years. Her extended family also includes the furry companions she adored as family pets – each of whom brought her comfort and happiness.
She is survived by her brothers Henry [Margaret] and David [late Cathy]. Brenda enjoyed a dedicated career as a real estate agent and had a lifelong love of animals and travel. She was committed to community service through the Junior Service League, National Trust, and Red Cross.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff of Westmeath Nursing Care Home for their compassionate support during her final year. A graveside service will be held on Monday, 19th of January 2026 at 2:00pm at St. Mark’s Cemetery, Smith’s parish.
