Dudley Eugene “Cass” Young
Tribute to the late Dudley Eugene aka “Cass” Young: February 12, 1948 – March 13, 2025.
He was the son of the late Allan Lonsdale & Elsie Bernice [Spring] Young. Sister to the late Gwendolyn Taylor, Delores Proctor, Leroy “Fungi” Young and Isabelle Smith.
He left Bermuda in the late 1990s and travelled with his wife, the late Toni [Zachelli] Young and son, Adrian to the US, last residing in Brewster, Mass.
He is remembered by his nieces and nephews in Bermuda as February 12th would have been his 78th birthday. He is the one who taught us all we know about music – all genres. He was a “music freak.” We heard gospel on Sundays, March music on Monday mornings, and country on Tuesday mornings before he went to work. In the evenings and the rest of the week, we heard R&B, jazz [all jazz], hard rock, and everything else. We swear he bought every album there was. That’s why we have such an appreciation and a “good ear” for all music. He was also an avid amateur photographer, taking many family photos that we cherish. One photo project that he did was to take a picture of the sunset every day for a year to prove that no two sunsets were alike.
He was fondly remembered on his birthdate by nieces and nephews: the Proctors – Laverne, Gregory, Wendell [Gussa], Joanne and Shane and their families; Belinda Taylor and her family; the Smiths – Ashley, Karen, Colin [the Mayor], and Charleeta and their families. As well as his cousins, and many friends who have asked about him over the years. Continue to rest in peace, uncle.
