It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Maria Therese Evers Smith, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She passed away peacefully on October 29, 2025, in her 8th year. Maria was a light to all who knew her. Her kindness, wisdom, laughter, creative spirit, and unwavering love for her family and friends will always be remembered. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Born in Jamaica, New York, and raised in Summit, New Jersey, Bermuda became Maria’s home in 1963. She is survived by her loving husband Edward Gordon Smith, two daughters, Paula Wight [John] and Heidi Louise Smith, grandchildren Catherine Gillett [Will], Sarah Thomson [Kenny], and proud great-grandmother to Grace, Luca, and Isla. Maria is also survived by her brother Paul Evers [Maggie], sister-in-law Barbara Evers, and numerous loving nieces, nephews, and friends. She is predeceased by her parents, Ludwig and Paula Evers, and son, Gordon Timothy Smith.
A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Patrick’s Church, Smith’s Parish, on Thursday, November 20th, 2025, at 2:00 pm, with interment following at St. John’s Church, Pembroke.
