[AMIS Memorial Chapel & Crematory]

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Oliver Stanley Simmons, who peacefully transitioned from this life on April 6, 2026 at the age of 80. Oliver, of Spice Hill Road, Warwick, Bermuda, was born on August 2, 1945, as the youngest of 10 children, to Lucetta and Capt. Cecil Simmons.

His early years were spent at Spice Hill Road, where he attended Purvis Primary School and played football for Southampton Rangers Sports Club.

Oliver was a man of wit, immensely charming, with a smile that could light up any room. His unending humor brought joy to everyone around him. Big Simmons, as he was often referred to by his peers, was never afraid of hard Work. Blue collar in nature and by trade, Oliver joined his father, Captain Cecil Simmons, on the Queen of Bermuda where he learned to navigate and pilot the waters of Bermuda at the early age of 14. Continuing his love and passion for ship operations, Oliver worked as a longshoreman at Stevedoring Services, were he eventually retired.

Oliver’s legacy continues through his four sons: Ondray, Tony, Blaire and Jamel Simmons; his grandchildren: Zia, Zariah, Aziah, Amia, Maliah, Whitney, Daniel, Jahde’, Jahni, Cruz and Aiden; his great-grandchildren: Oliver and Messiah.

He also leaves behind his sisters Audrey Tucker [USA], Marguerite Leavitt [USA], Garnell Lambert and brother Wayne Stoneham; sister-in-law: Phyllis Simmons; nieces: Zoleta Smith, Teunne’ Lambert, Brenda Rasheed, Sandra Everheart, Kimberly Campbell, Marie Nimrod, Elsa Rucker [USA], Alona Dandridge, Karen Lawrence [USA] and their families; nephews: Clinton and Delbert Simmons, Todd [USA] and Charles [USA] Lawrence and their families; great-niece: Sydney Tavares; great-nephew: Sidkai Tavares; cousins: Zuill, Wade, Simmons, Lambert, Outerbridge families; godson: Melvin Bowen Jr.; other family members and friends too numerous to mention.

Oliver was predeceased by his parents Capt. Cecil and Lucetta Simmons [nee Zuill]; brothers and sisters-in-law: Albert, Willis [late Rhona], Leon, George [late Amy] and Clinton Simmons; sisters: Idabelle Simmons, Dorothy Welch and Mildred Stoneham; brothers-in-law: Edward Welch and Leslie Leavitt; nieces: Lynn Simmons [and son Justin Simmons], Rochelle Simmons and Sonya Tavares, great-niece: Shellée Smith; aunts: Amy Wade [nee Zuill], Lillian Zuill, Isabel Hall [nee Simmons]; uncles: Alfred, Hilton, Ralph, William and Louis Zuill and Kenneth Simmons, special friends and other family members too numerous to mention.

The Oliver Simmons family would like to send a special thank you to the staff at Port Royal Gas Station for all their love and support.
