Update 12:06pm: Statement from Chief Inspector Nick Pedro Officer in charge of Serious Crime, saying the firearm was loaded, and the male defendant has been in Police custody since December 22 pursuant to Section 29A of the Firearms Act 1973 (amended).

On Wednesday 5/1/11 two persons appeared in Hamilton Magistrates Court to be charged with Firearms offences. These charges stem from a Police firearms operation that saw these two persons arrested in the Government Gate area of Pembroke and the recovery of a loaded firearm, on Wednesday 22nd December, 2010.

The persons arrested are a 31 year old male from Pembroke, and a 22 year old female from Sandys Parish. The male has been in Police custody following a detention order (without charge) from the Supreme Court pursuant to Section 29A of the Firearms Act 1973 (amended) since the time of his arrest. The female was arrested at the time of the incident, and recently re-arrested following receipt of additional evidence.

The appearance in court today of these two persons represents the culmination of two weeks solid work by the Bermuda Police Service, in line with its mission of addressing guns, gangs & violence. The Bermuda Police Service continues to work tirelessly towards “Making Bermuda Safer”.

  1. Sarah says:

Throw the book at them, make an example, etc

    • Tee says:

You need to get your story straight before you make comments like that! What they really need to do is solve all these 42 murders and arrest the culprits responsible for them!

      • Sarah says:

Arresting people for weapons possession would sure help with that, and with getting guns off the street!

      • Steven says:

I respect and agree with you 200% Tee!!! How many times are there shootings up 42nd and nothing comes out of it!? As soon as there is a shooting around the block the police are camped on Court Street FOREVER but when there’s a shooting up 42nd you see ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!!!!!!

        • Think before you speak. says:

Yeah – great idea – let’s not waste time with Kofi Dill and his .38! Prosecuting him is unfair!

As early as it is, I dont think I will hear anything stupider than Tee and Steven’s comments today!

    • The Baddest says:

Throw books at them?? You cant be serious…..Innocent until proven guilty…I’m sure you have heard of that right? You are speculating;making assumptions. Just because the “police” make an arrest doesn’t mean people are guilty. So to write “throw the books at them, make an example” is being judgmental. Because the police arrest an individual, does not set an example either. It means NOTHING…..Until the police arrest on hard evidence and make sure they have the right people for the right crimes then they will set an example until then….please….Bermuda Police and system is horrible..

    • Retards says:

You people must be retards. Who cares which guns they take of the street. Who cares if it was from 42, Somerset, Middle Town. The fact of the matter is. They are getting the guns off the street. They need to solve all the friggin murders. And hopefully arresting these counts, a murder might get solved.

  2. Brasco says:

Big Ups To BPS….we not gonna here about this case until 2012, after all the time waisting/money waisting Monthly Arraignment sessions

  3. Steven says:

Why throw the book at them and you don’t know if they’re guilty or not. The police are always going after the people who are just defending themselves and leaving the real wicked b#stards out to run the streets and cause terror. I hope they get off because the justice system is well flawed!!!!!!!!!

    • Tee says:

Thank you Steven! Well said! Maybe they should FINALLY leave 42 guys alone and target the Parkside and Friswell’s Hill guys! When will you people EVER realize that 42 DOES NOT go looking for trouble!

    • Sarah says:

“Defending themselves”? Yes, that’s a great reason to have a gun in a country where that’s illegal. FFS are you actually stupid?
The “b#stards” are the ones running around with guns, refusing to act like adults and attempt to reconcile their differences…sounds kind of like this might be the case, huh?
The reason our justice system is flawed is because too many people get off, or get weak sentences, or worthless ~suspended~ sentences.

      • Steven says:

It’s funny how people make comments when they have a clue what’s really going on!!! Do you even know Sarah!!?? Are you street wise!!?? NO!! You really don’t know and if you did then you wouldn’t be saying what you’re saying. I don’t like all this violence that’s going on I actually hate it but everybody that knows the truth knows that the guys from up 42 do not want to be in the war. But at the same time if they all just decided to sit around, chill and enjoy their lives and spend time with their families they would all get shot up and probably killed by the real terrorist in this island and the police and everyone knows who they are so I don’t have to say it.

        • hi says:

Don’t be in a gang! Cut down the chances of getting shot by 50%!!! Yes throw the book! So its one less gangster on the street to shoot up Good Friday, where children are around one less thug to shoot around pre schools! I have no sympathy, I don’t care where ya from Parkside or 42! Enough is Enough!!!

        • Kristin says:

          Steven:

Perhaps you can shed some light on how/why this all started? You say the 42nd guys aren’t involved, or rather, are not the instigators of the situation. Who is? Why?

Also, please understand: you are yelling at someone because they aren’t ‘streetwise’ but for everyday citizens who are scared and worried… we are looking for the law to take action. When we see someone arrested for having a gun, that is GOOD news. Yes we want them to have a fair trial, but to us it’s a step. I get that if you have inside information about what is going on, you might feel like it’s an unfair arrest. But for the rest of us, who aren’t privy to the same information of the how/why/who, we just see another gunman off the street.

        • Clueless says:

Well Steven, why don’t you enlighten us all! Tell us and everyone what is going on, who is in and who is out, who is shooting and who isn’t. Letting this information be in the public domain may actually help stop the craziness.

You actually sound like you know a whole lot so share with us, be a part of the solution. Knowledge is power, the more of us who are as knowledgeable as you are the more power we can attain to stop the violence we all don’t like. Help us to help everyone!!

          • DARRIN DIZZLE says:

Everybody knows 42nd is a bunch of angels that sit on walls waiting to help old ladies cross the street while encouraging the youth not to smoke weed or drink alcohol. 42nd stands for black pride and the upliftment of their people. 42nd believes in higher education and strong family values rooted in the church. 42nd’s motto is each one teach one. 42nd values life. 42nd is well known for it’s contributions to society. 42nd consists of nothing but law abiding citizens who are gainfully employed so why does Parkside mess with them?
42nd is the healing of the nation.

            • Think before you speak. says:

              LMAO!

              • Ya'll are just not smart enough says:

Ya’ll are making me laugh!! Everyone of you needs to get a grip, seriously!

  4. Andrew says:

Based on the story – they were found in possesion of a firearm. I am unsure how they could not be guilty, unless I am missing something?

Are firearms legal on the island for general carrying?

And do you honestly think they were ‘just defending’ themselves?? Get a grip..

    • The Baddest says:

WRONG!!!!!!!Believe little from what you see, and non of what you hear! If you was there when this took place then by all means, talk up, if you wasn’t, don’t talk on speculation.

      • really? says:

says someone who has most likely witnessed a shooting and wont talk… do the island a favor and STFU

        • The Baddest says:

lol!! You please do a favor and STFU….you must be living in your own world..not everyone is like you and will talk up.

          • hi says:

We are not talking about everyone, the conversation is about you…. Obviously you are lacking some form of common sense… You completely contradicted yourself just now… Do your self a favor sweets stop commenting your looking a bit stupid. :)

            • The Baddest says:

Simps….the conversation is clearly not about me its about the the to people in the article…but it you think Im that important to have a whole blog directed to me and my royal behind, than please be my guest….and HI do us all a favor and stop posting comments…so BYE SWEETS….

              • hi says:

there goes your lack there of…

the convo about you started with ‘really?”s comment

your irrelevant, and so are your senseless remarks

      • mixitup says:

All I know is if people practiced better judgement then there is little chance they would find themselves in these situations. Example: I had an old friend pop up at my house the other day, before they could step foot in my house, I nicely told them that I would rather they not and in 2 minutes they were gone. Where their feelings hurt? Probably, but my better judgement told me that this friend is best kept at a distance.

        • Andrew says:

They were arrested and had a firearm on them – exactly what am I missing? I am not speculating? You don’t need to have been there to understand that do you?

Or are you saying the gun was planted?

I am asking this as an honest question – I was not there when they were arrested so would dearly like to know what is the speculation here

    • Grizz says:

Andrew, I am sorry maybe you need to get a grip. There is a war going on right now and YES for SOME, it is a matter of defending themselves. If i know someone is hunting me then hey, imma make sure i’m prepared. Who else is gonna protect me?

      • The Baddest says:

Absolutely no one!!! Just you! This is 2011 and war is happening here in Bermuda, face it people, no one can change that.

  5. Curious says:

Tee and Steven: Check the archives and see how much of a star citizen Kofi Dill is. People make me laugh talk about the police need to solve the crimes yet when they arrest people allegedly in possession of guns you all cry foul or shout let them free, and you wonder why the killing’s keep happening. The police are dammed if they do and dammed if they don’t.

    • Grizz says:

Curious, let people’s past be there past!! Let he who is without sin cast the first stone!

    • The Baddest says:

Yeah let the past be the past…that’s whats wrong with people…it don’t matter what was done in the past, the present is now so move forward, why you doing research on Kofi Dill anyway? he must be a star in your eyes!

      • Grizz says:

@ the Baddest….looks like we agree on most things…HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU…and keep safe!

        • The Baddest says:

thankxx you GRIZZ…Happy and a Safe one to you as well!!

    • Tee says:

He isn’t an angel and he’s done his share, but his life was headed in another direction if he had the opportunity, but clearly it was taken from him before he could achieve it…who are you to judge! Everyone deserves a chance to make life anew!

  6. True Dat says:

I agree with Tee & Steven!! Its funny how all the real murdersare still running the streets!! Even still standing out in plan site!! But they keep getting away and the police know who they are!!
But some how its never enough evidence and if they are not standing on the corners, they are being locked up for petty crimes aka protection!!
Then the cops and everybody hollering out at people talking bout we need a witness!! What the Hell
why should anyone speak up so we can get Shot too!!
A People got to protect themselves
Same way one crew be getting arrested left right and center and the other crew is geting away scott free
    What do you do??
    what do you Believe??

    • Uncle Ruckus says:

You all keep commenting with all this info but who do you give it to since you know these things? Some type of internal investigation needs to be started I guess.

  7. bernews says:

Just a quick note, before we have to edit comments too much [have some waiting now], legally speaking, we aren’t really supposed to talk specifics of guilt or innocence of specific defendants before the trial. Dampens conversation I know, sorry, but that is the parameters we must operate within. Best to be vague and make references to crime and the justice system in general etc

    Patricia

  8. Terry says:

Keep up the good work with regards to reporting Bernews.

The demise of Bermuda unfortunately is on course. Previous comments only confirm that. As for “bout we need a witness”, looks like there are a few out there.

    Sad days ahead.

  9. Not Surprised says:

Am I missing somthing here? The last time I checked guns are Illegal!! Police Keep up the good work. They are working on getting the guns of the street therefore attempt at diminishing crimes. And althoigh the police may “know who it is” with out witnesses and hard core evidence they can not make an arrest.

Its up to the courts to decide guilt or innocence, it’s up to the police to bring forth those they have found committing a crime, Possesion of a gun is a crime. They have done there jobs now for the courts to do theirs.

  10. True Dat says:

    @Terry: Not many witnesses
and not the ones who know the real deal
    and i can understand why!!!
    This system cannot be trusted
Got to many holes in it…
People always fail to address the real problem
    Everything starts at the Top!!!
How on Gods Green Earth did all of these Guns And Drugs get here in the first place huh????!!!!
How Did all this stuff get into our little country
somebody HAD TO LOOK THE OTHER WAY!!!!!!
    MONEY TALKS BS WALKS!!!!

  11. just joking says:

lets me get this straight…I should go and buy a gun to protect myself…maybe I should get a bazooka just to make sure…
These people…ok.ok..if found guilty should be given their time…Then for every day they do not give up the information as to where they acquired the gun given an additional year in jail!!! Then we’ll start to see some results..

  12. Ignorance is bliss. says:

It does not matter if you are from 42 or Parkside If your affiliated with a gang you are part of the problem regardless of who is killing who. A Gang is an organized group of criminals its as simple as that. All Gangs break the law and all laws broken need to be dealt with. If your carrying a gun to begin with its always for self defense isn’t it? If one drug dealer is selling weed and the other selling crack they are both equally guilty and need to be held responsible for there actions. Regardless of what type of illegal activity you are partaking inn within a gang you are equally responsible for the detriment you will cause to society.

  13. DARRIN DIZZLE says:

They should even walk the bad guys around the block slowly a few times before taking them into court to further embarass them or let the public see who the nuisances are.

  14. Peace and Love says:

Until the corruption at the higher level is sorted out this is the life we will come to know living in Bermuda..Plain and simple!!!!

  15. myopinion says:

Guns are illegal in Bermuda + they were caught in possession of a gun = they are guilty of possessing a gun. Plain and simple. End of story.

I fail to see any confusion here.

  16. mixed up says:

anybody commenting on here and defending these two is probably just as ignorant as the guy with the gun. Sounds like one or two of you probably are from 42 and ya mad cuz ya friend got caught. If it was a park side guy i’m sure you would be laughing at them. Stop defending this crap with your wild theories and justifying these peoples actions based on the fact that they feel they are in danger. Usually when you find yourself in a dangerous position it’s cuz you put yourself there, plain and simple. getting caught with a gun is supposed to be a minimum 10 years, so if it was in his / her posession then thats what they deserve. as for the other person, if it can be proven that they knew about it then they should get burned too. A gun is a gun! and guns are killing our people!

    • The Baddest says:

Correction….PEOPLE ARE KILLING OUR PEOPLE….NOT GUNS..JUST FOR YOUR FYI

      • DARRIN DIZZLE says:

Correction…OUR BLACK PEOPLE ARE KILLING OUR BLACK PEOPLE….WITH GUNS….BECAUSE THEY ARE AFRAID TO FIGHT WITH THEIR FISTS! And Bermudians were afraid of the Uighars! Uighar? Please!

        • The Baddest says:

CORRECTION……WHAT, DOES IT MATTER WHAT COLOR YOU ARE?….PEOPLE ARE PEOPLE…NO MATTER BLACK OR WHITE….WITH GUNS..

          • DARRIN DIZZLE says:

Ommmmm! Only blacks are killing blacks over there! How many white’s killed blacks with guns lately? How many blacks killed blacks? How many white gangs does Bermuda have that are striking fear in the community? Didn’t a bunch of people come out and demonstrate against hosting the Uighars? How many protested about 42nd or Parkside. It doesn’t matter what color if everybody is doing it. That’s just it. Everybody is not.

            PS. I’m black!

            • bermyshotta says:

@ D Dizzle – well de majority of Bermy is black so there ya go…ya answer’s right dea. oh ya ain’t just blacks, others etc, I know white guys that are into all dat stuff…ain’t just blacks and others u know. and um speakin from facts cuz um livin it everyday…so just to clarify wat ya said earlier. An wat ya gonna protest about 42 or parkside…not really a comparison.

              • DARRIN DIZZLE says:

@shotta. I think you have a valid point. Of course it’s not only blacks comitting crime. You live what everyday? Thug life? How bad can it really be in Bermuda? What is your worst slum? Please! I’m from East Orange! I know Double I bloods fron Illtown to Inglewood. I know them but don’t run with them. I know what real hood is. Bermuda is just following. In the states it is that bad! Come to Newark! In Bermuda your homies are trying to bring yourselves down to that status. Bring yourselves up instead.
I have family in Bermuda and I’m there all the time so I know.
                When you’re older you’ll understand.
                No disrespect intended.

                • bermyshotta says:

@ Dizzle – Cool. Well just in de everyday struggle that majority of folks goin through. Of course it’s different from NJ and LA…still bad parts in Bermy. Funny you say that um got many cousins and friends in Newark, East Orange, bloomfield, etc…um been to ya hood and course its bad…its also alot bigger. um already up. Um old enough to understand…bless

          • right says:

He just stating the facts!!! How many white guys have got shot a murdered in the past 2/3 yrs? Don’t worry I’ll wait!!!

    • mixed up 2 says:

      AMEN Mixed up!!!

      • Andrew says:

Guns dont kill people.. rappers do.

        Don’t they?

        • DARRIN DIZZLE says:

No Andrew! Speed and stupid people who hate themselves and their people kill people! Rappers just make more money than most stupid people so they don’t have to kill people. They just act like they do.

    • DARRIN DIZZLE says:

PREACH mixed up! Most average law abiding citizens don’t get guns or weed planted on them. Most average law abiding citizens don’t get shot. At least not in Bermuda. If you’re down with Parkside or 42nd you are ignorant and the enemy of your race. Forget racism. You’ve done more harm to your own people. I haven’t heard one story about a white person killing a black person in the last 40 years in Bermuda. How many have your ace boys killed?

      • The Baddest says:

Not all gang affiliated persons are ignorant.

        • Think before you speak. says:

‘Not all gang affilliated persons are ignorant’…..just really stupid.

        • Brasco says:

@The Baddest….You sound Ignorant!….Which Corner Street Crew you affliated wifffffffff?!?!?!?!?!?….I role wiff the T.S.T.W. (Travel See The World) Crew!

          • The Baddest says:

The word “ignorant” means lack of knowledge…and obviously you are lacking in that department…..Because you are gonna step to me…you need to take an English lesson or 3..because some of your words are in correct….
I am with no corner street crew….because i am saying not everyone in,around or affiliated with a “gang” is a bad person AND HAS TO BE PUT IN THE SAME COOKIE CUT STEREOTYPICAL MOLD..does not mean I am defending “gangs”.

And F.Y.I…..Iv seen the world….evidently you haven’t…buy a clue not a plane ticket.

        • DARRIN DIZZLE says:

Why aren’t they? Isn’t gang life ignorant? What scholars, doctors, lawyers or outstanding members of the community are gang affiliated that you know? Tell me one thing that is positive and not ignorant about being a gang affiliate. How has it made your life and the life of your children better? How has gang affiliation made you a better person? You must mean that not every person that knows a gang member is ignorant, but if one joins a gang and runs with a gang and has a gang mentality then they can be considered to be ignorant? If you wear your pants hanging off of your bum you might be smart but you look ignorant to the rest of the belt wearing world.

        • bermyshotta says:

@ de Baddest – amen….guys don’t understand cuz they like to lump everybody wit de same label. ppl on this r ignorant.

    • Grizz says:

mixed up when you get in a situation where your back is up against the wall and people are threatening your life then talk to me…until then please shut up…How’s that for ignorant. I believe the ignorance comes from people that talk when they don’t know what they are talking about. Is it wrong to defend the so called crap you talk about when you know there are more facts to the situation…something you know nothing about, so once again I say please shut up!!

  17. areUserious says:

You can blame it on guns,
You can blame it on thugs,
You can blame it on stupidity and lack of education
You can blame it on drugs….
But at the end of the day as long as there is corruption THIS is the Bermuda that we will come to know..

    • mixitup says:

Hello! corruption in Bermuda has been going on for a Veeeerrryyy long time buddy! I don’t see the link with the violence of recent.

      • areUserious says:

@ “mixitup” it is a WORLDWIDE issue!! and yes it has lots to do with it! I’m sure the “GunFairy” is not doing a pit stop during the night and these guys are waking up to find guns under their pillows….SOMEONE is letting them in….The same way the drugs are making it here..I’m sure no one is just snapping their fingers for a weed bush and low and behold one appears..CORRUPTION has plenty to do with it and because it has had time and opportunity to manifest it is getting worse! Hence the violence of recent..and for the record boo, I am not a buddy..I am female…please and thank you!

  18. Tired says:

Brasco, you seem to comment on EVERY article that has something to do with firearms.

If people dont know what really happen, I think they just need to keep their mouths SHUT!!!!!!!!! They could have been in a house that had a gun in it, that dont mean it was their gun or that knew anything about it. I guess cause their young black people their automatically guilty.

    • Brasco says:

@Tired……That Was A Tired Response…..Let me guess, your next posting will read: “Don’t Worry About The Haters, Keep Your Head Up”

FYI….I am Black…AND I’M SICK AND TIRED OF READING ABOUT BLACK ON BLACK CRIME, IT’S STUPID….IT HAS NO MEANING….NO PURPOSE….IT’S NOTHING BUT COWARDS HAVING GRUDGES

You express yourself by passing gas…I express myself on Bernews when applicable…..I’m not a politician, sorry I don’t have that kind of useless power to change things!

    • Sheriff says:

      @ Tired…Sounds like you need to make a call…800-8477 (TIPS)…

  19. bermyshotta says:

Forget de guns … as long as theres $$$ to go round…den all dis will continue. plain an simple

  20. Uncle Ruckus says:

So are we to assume that they aren’t using these guns for retaliation murders? Oh right only in “self defense” right? SMH. Innocent until proven guilty my arse. Guilty until proven innocent. So let me guess the police planted those guns? Righttttttttt. Don’t involve yourself in illegal crime, gangs, drug selling etc and you wouldn’t have to “defend” yourself. I won’t be shot unless it’s a stray bullet, I’m not a target. You have to be a total imbecile to be in a gang using GUNS on an island 21 miles long. Turn around the corner BAM! You shot and dead. Wow what a way to live.

    • Think before you speak. says:

      Well said Uncle Ruckus.

      • Interesting.... says:

I totally agree with you “Uncle Ruckus”. I’ve sat here and read many comments on this subject and can pretty much tell which individuals are leaning towards the side of the criminals; the ones who dislike the police and the ones who blame this gun violence on the Government and everyone else besides the fools who are pulling the trigger.

It’s a pity because no matter how many shootings take place, NO ONE seems to want to come forward and give any information for fear that they may suffer some sort of repercussion from these “wanna be” thugs. I’m not suggesting that anyone put their life in danger but at some point someone has to come forward and give information which can lead to arrests.

May I suggest that the individuals blaming the police for not solving these murders do some research on how the law actually works here in Bermuda.

I DO NOT CARE WHAT ANYONE THINKS BUT I THINK THAT THE POLICE ARE DOING A VERY GOOD JOB WITH WHAT LITTLE HELP AND RESOURCES THEY HAVE!

At the end of the day, STOP blaming the gun violence on black men being oppressed, broken homes, Government not providing activities for the young or any other lame ass excuses out there. ALL of us MUST take accountability in EVERYTHING we do and say as we are ALL adults. We need to remember that these punks have no respect for any of us on the island, white or black, so STOP defending them! They ALL MUST be dealt with severely and harshly when caught!

    • The Baddest says:

Ooooo please…Don’t assume anything..have facts. Guns are illegal and shouldn’t be used in self defense. People like you don’t know the half. “INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY”. You nor anyone don’t know how this gun came about, you wasn’t there, who knows, ..you just don’t know. I can tell you are not street smart..you may live in a glass house..don’t throw stones.

  21. Steven says:

Ok I’m really getting sick and tired of these ignorant comments from ppl that are clueless. First of all 42 is NOT a GANG!!!!!!!!! It’s just guys who hang in a neighborhood but the stupid media and everyone wants you to believe that they are a gang….Why!!?? Beause they are defending themselves from a parkside!!?? A bunch of terrosrist that are ruining Bermuda. Everyone who knows the truth knows that they are starting and are responsible for most of this madness. If you ask ppl from any other so called gang around the island or even general ppl that know what’s going on they will tell you that Parkside is causing all this madness. We all know this and not to justify these shootings at all but Wheels, Shane, Kumi and Perry where not Gang Members they where honest fathers and sons who did nothing but take care of their families and were excellent Fathers to their children.

    • In General says:

Just an FYI the meaning of GANG is as follows:

      noun
      1. a group or band: A gang of boys gathered around the winning pitcher.
      2. a group of youngsters or adolescents who associate closely, often exclusively, for social reasons, esp. such a group engaging in delinquent behavior.
      3. a group of people with compatible tastes or mutual interests who gather together for social reasons: I’m throwing a party for the gang I bowl with.
      4. a group of persons working together; squad; shift: a gang of laborers.
      5. a group of persons associated for some criminal or other antisocial purpose: a gang of thieves.
      6. a set of tools, electronic components or circuits, oars, etc., arranged to work together or simultaneously.
      7. a group of identical or related items.

I believe what you just described fall isn at least two of those meanings perhaps numbers 2 and 3. So therefore it is a GANG!

    • Scott says:

      honest fathers/sons/etc..??

so these “parksiders” just decided one day “hey, that guy’s a good dad. We want to mess up his life.. lets go shoot him”??

while this is highly sarcastic, if you can honestly answer yes to that then i’ll consider it an honest question.

    • DARRIN DIZZLE says:

Maybe if guys hung out in a library instead of a NEIGHBORHOOD none of this would be going on? Why do we as a people have to always be HANGING out or HANGING around? If they would go get an education and a job maybe they wouldn’t be labeled as GANG MEMBERS unlike most of the rest of Bermuda! Hmmmmm? Sounds like a plan! Is it more fun to get shot at, to be on a no fly list and be a prisoner of your tiny section of the island?

    • Tee says:

42 is NOT a GANG! They are a bunch of guys (friends) who grew up in the area of 42nd! Parkside is a GANG, a group of guys who did NOT grow up together but instead affiliated together to establish power over this island by first starting with chain-snatching to presently turning to gun violence! Get your facts straight people!

      • Just want to know says:

Tee get your facts str8. Parkside started from a group of young male friends hanging outside of parkside restaurant, whom where from the neighborhood. Some where along the way outsiders start hanging around and the original group that used to hang down there are not even in this mess. I honestly feel anyone that not from 42 and get in trouble they automatically place them as parkside. These so called parkside are all rounders and hang everywhere. The original parkside guys have jobs and have stepped away from this mess.

        • iThink says:

parkside laundry… fluff and fold, the resturant wasnt there yet….

        • Tee says:

Wait a minute…let’s get YOUR facts straight! SOME of the original Parkside guys have grown up and become REAL MEN…working citizens of Bermuda! The others have created this DRAMA that we are facing on this island today and have made additions to the “Parkside to the Darkside” that is posted all over their FB pages by recruiting younger males! They may not do the “dirty work” themselves but instead dictate to the younger ones to do it for them! This has been proven through cases that have been brought before the courts and has been seen numerous times in public! Maybe you should sit off at one of Bermuda’s clubs where people have been forced to leave because of violence that breaks out due to the infamous “Parkside”. Maybe you should see the reaction of people when they enter a club, let alone the amount of people that actually leave because of their presence! DON’T try to tell me that NONE of the original members aren’t in this mess!So on that note, the SMART former Parkside members that grew up have stepped away, kudos to them, the other idiots still depend on one another for safety purposes and because technically, no one else wants to be around them and endanger their own lives anyway!

      • 42/psc 4eva n ah day says:

once upon of time 42 & psc was a team who looked for trouble now that was a gang now its a problem because they don’t stand by each other side anymore. 42 help them gain the violence, they use to snatch chain, organize fights, jump people sheesh your talking as if there angel’s in the outfield!

Tee: correction-psc is not a gang there a group of friend who grew up with each other as well and majority of them all have legal jobs!

who cares if they have PS-DS written all over there pages what about 42 and what they have posted up on their FB pages.
what goes around comes around its karma, things happen- nobody is innocent.
        everyone is an enemy

the point and main thing is, is that there getting the guns off the street!

        • Tee says:

Yes I will admit, you are right! Once upon a time they were a unit, and who knows, 42 may have created these demons, but at some point in time, you have to grow up and move beyond the negative acts that were once engaged in, especially when people’s lives are being taken, and innocent children are the one’s suffering! I never said 42nd was a bunch of innocent men because we know that is not the case and yes some have been before the courts in the past, but at some point, the war must end and after so many lives have been taken, when will it be called treuce? The reality of the situation is now 42nd DO NOT want to partake in the madness and I’m sure you know that! Do I condone the carrying of weapons, NO I do not! When its evident that being protected in an area where you call home, where your friends were killed and where police presence is not available despite the amount of close calls you’ve had with death, where names are called but those people still walk the streets…..then you pick the bones out of that….and by the way, the Police van is STILL on Court Street!

    • bermyshotta says:

@ steven – amen again…ya just preachin to de choir here. guys on here don’t care wat ya have to say and won’t ever. but dats de truth above…

      • The Baddest says:

@ TEE Amen…the ones commenting and saying throw the books…good, and all sorts of rude things…are the same people cowardly staying in their homes….and running their putty mouths…

  22. Steven says:

@ the rest of the ignorant fools slating someone for a past record…..Are you saying that ppl cannot change!!?? Are all the ppl who have committed crimes in the past bad ppl!!?? Well let’s line up every ex-con and tell them that they are full of it because they are the same ppl who they were in the past. And not all the ppl who are affiliated with these so called gangs ignorant ppl. Some just know them from childhood and choose to remain friends with them. So if you see MP Michael Weeks sitting off up 42 everyday talking with them all the time does that make him affiliated!? If you saw the Lister’s sitting off talking with Somerset guys everyday does that make them affilliated!? I know for a FACT that 42nd guys DO NOT want to be in this madness but what are they supposed to do? Sit around and wait to get killed while they sit off and chill with their families? Clearly you see the police mobile station camped around court street everday but what do you see up 42!!?? Absolutely Nothing!!!!!!! Why is that!? There have been a couple of shootings up 42nd recently and still no police presence. What happend to the regular foot patrols up there!? So for all you ppl that think you know what’s going when you really don’t please just SHUT UP!!!!!! Because if most of you where serious about solving this issue you would form groups and actually go to these so called gangs and sit down and talk with them to come up with a solution together. So don’t throw stones if you live in a glass house!!!!!!

    • right says:

“Because if most of you where serious about solving this issue you would form groups and actually go to these so called gangs and sit down and talk with them to come up with a solution together.”… Since you know for a fact that 42 guys don’t want anything to do with it, why don’t you and your friends and your family members form a group and come up with solutions?

You really should complain about a problem if your not going to do anything about it!

    • Scott says:

Fine. Assuming they dont want to be in this war, as you keep saying, then lets first start by figuring out why they are being shot at??

Just because it sounds like something fun for “parkside” to do? instead of paper, rocks, scissors, or monopoly, they jus tgo shoot?

or is there actually a more sinister reason? and dont just come back sayin im not streetwise and i just dont know, and all that BS… cause thats why im asking.

if they dont want to be in it, explain why its happening.

    • areUserious says:

@ steven in reference to the Police Mobile Station…shooting in Warwick yesterday…Mobile Unit on the block today…Hmmmmmm

      • Sarah says:

The mobile unit was on Court Street last week Friday, I don’t know if it left but it could have just been there since, not in response to the shooting. Just a thought.

        • areUserious says:

@ sara I think you may have missed what Steven and I were implying..that’s exactly it, its just parked! Like Steven said when there were shootings up the 2nd where was the mobile unit? why wasn’t it up the 2nd?, it’s presence providing a bit of relief for the residents? The shooting didn’t happen round the block..Shooting inWarwick why aren’t you set up there? again posted round the block…and before some wise A** says that they can’t be every where at once,,you are abosultely correct..they can’t possibly be if their round the block all the time..

  23. Just want to know says:

Lock him up!!!!! There is know excuse…He is no angel…

    • Grizz says:

@Justwanttoknow…..and I suppose you are an angel. And how would you know he didn’t have an excuse. You don’t, so all you judgemental people please just shut it. You all talk like you know these people personally….AND YES I DO!!

      • The Baddest says:

So the time that Nelson Mandela spent in jail…i guess he deserved that and was no angle either..Politics are corrupt and we all know this…and racism is still among us..and you cant tell me you are judging these BLACK people at least a little by the color of their skin!!! RACE WILL ALWAYS PLAY A ROLE…. AND JUST WANT YOU TO KNOW…STFU

  24. tired of yall crap says:

HALF OF YOU ALL DONT KNOW WHAT YOUR TALKING BOUT LOL BERMUDIANS CHAT CHAT WHAT THEY DONT KNOW

  25. sergio augustus says:

nobody focused on the real issue?how are the guns geting on the island thats what needs to be solved next to these unsolved murders.i live in england now and am glad to be away from the madness.i also went to northlands when it was a highschool with most of them 42 guys and i lived on unuion street jus outside mtown.and i remember most of us went the same school shaki and blackney was tight back then, and any beef you had was settled 1 on 1 fist to fist u win or loose but either the next day in school we had a laugh about it and that was it.things have got out of control and and its at an unstopable pace.change needs to come from up top first

    • areUserious says:

@ Sergio what you are describing is so 1970.(fights and how they were settled) YOU ALL went to school with each other, I to went to school with the older ones, and I have taught the younger ones….I guess you are new to the Bernews site because you have missed previous discussions on how the weapons end up here. We are all aware that things need to change,,and I so agree with you when you say were the change needs to come from first..however, if you voice that or heaven forbid mention the “C” word (corruption) you are immediately shot down..instead everybody wants to attack the “little men” not the “Big Men” (you know the ones that are fronting the real dough!!!)

Another thing that might be the segway into getting things back the way they were is to be respectful to one another..Have a quick read of some of the comments and see the name calling and negative comments going back and forth (I might be guilty of one negative comment but I can accept my responsibility for that) until we respect each other and learn to get along and allow each other to speak without being chastised we will get nowhere! There will be no “I” in reaching a solution it will be a TEAM effort (Together Everyone Achieves More)

Before I sign off let me just share a few lines of a song by Richie Spice. (I believe that’s who the artist is)I would then challenge anyone to seek the true meaning of the words..In listening to the song it is really deep:

“In the Streets it’s getting hot,
and the youth them a cold
Searching for food for the pot
They’ll do anything to fill that gap……

and the song goes on…There really is a message to it….Have a listen!

      • sergio augustus says:

i feel what your saying brov but i am not relateing to th 70s.i finshed high school in 97 and had the honor of going school with kumi, wheels, and my best friend and childrens godfather shane along with his brother shaki.it just amazes me that the ones that are fighting among each other at one time were good friends.i lived near mtown so therefore thats were i spent all of my free time, and if there was any beef with 42 n mtown the 2 who had the problem sorted and if you lost or won it was over right there.all of us had to go school the next day.I know that richie spice, good song. heres 1 4 you Gyptian Serious times

        • areUserious says:

@ Sergio I feel you, back in the day you used your fist. I know all the guys you have mentioned as well, Such a shame because its going to get worse before it gets any better! I kove Gyptian as well and yes we are living in Serious Times. Earlier you posed the question which should have steered this conversation in a whole different direction..where are the guns coming from? but nobody took the bait! Instead some of them are going on and on about what they think they know..and before anyway decides to try and talk out the side of their face and respond to my previous sentence..let’s just say that I probably know more than I should …With the names that you mentioned..I have done grief counselling with children that were close to them. either godchild, nephew, niece, friend or neighbour..

Instead of everyone getting on each others case and calling names (which by the way is not helping any)try and make a positive out of a negative..Debate can be a healthy thing if done correctly..

Outside of Parkside and 42 there are other factions that participate in anti social behavior..there’s also MOB and ORC and others. But let’s just deal with the one’s you hear about the most…

Without opening a can of worms if you really look at the ones that have been murdered, somewhere along the line thay ALL have something in common which is different from the everyday, run of the mill, average person. I am not saying that it was right what has happened to them but REALLY, WHAT’s THE REAL DEAL? We will not reach a solution until we find what the root of the problem is..if you ask no one seems to know or so they say.

Just from last year alone count how many young men have lost their father to violence, how many families have been torn apart as a result of this? Those that have been locked away for committing these crimes families suffer as well..

it really has gotten out of hand. I myself am a mother. I have sons who at this time I can honestly say are not gang affiliated, I can only hope and pray that they stay on the straight and narrow. They have been threatened, had their chain snatched, been approached by certain people because their “from up the country” and the like..approached by young men that don’t know them but know that they are not from town and want to fight them..some of these same young men went to school with my sons, played on the same soccer teams, have spent the night at my house..but all of that does not matter anymore..

I get sick and tired of everyone calling them thugs, losers, lock them up and throw away the key…let’s put the vblame in another direction for a bit..let’s blame those that are taking cash on the “sly” and letting drugs and guns into the island..Some will get offended if the point you are making drwas reference to their occupation..to them I would say you might be straight but not everyone is on the up and up..everybody has a price..

To those that are getting on others case for not being forthcoming with information if you can handle bullets being shot at your house, having your family members threatened, have no problem receiving threatening texts, emails and voice messages than by all means if you see something go ahead and report it, but be prepared to watch your back because some of the ones you report to are not on the up and up either…some of them may be but not all so it’s a risk that you take..

          PS. Sergio I’m not a “bro” I’m female…

  26. iThink says:

collect the ip addresses of Tee Steven and Baddest, find out who they are…. looks like they know what’s going on…. interrogate them… bermuda needs answers

    • bermyshotta says:

@ iThink – you need to think again bredren. what r u the internet police? lmfao. get a life bra…and while ya doin that maybe you’ll find some of de info ya lookin for!

      • iThink says:

number one… how is that your pathetic little brain can conger that im a boy from the name iThink? because im not a boy, loser…

and where in the statement above do u see ‘I’ am going to start internet policing?

its called a suggestion, since you and you low life friends dont seem to be coming up with solution…. all you ignorant creatures do is add to the problem by commenting on Bernews.com saying “ya’ll dont know what happened you wernt durr” and “42 dont wanna be in this mess and they aint ah gang”

Number two how about you get a life and a education. May do you some good

        • iThink says:

          an education

          • Ya'll are just not smart enough says:

Not to criticise your comments or anything, but are you all serious??

Everyone above and soon below this message is so quick to judge and brandish wild and crazy statements about this or that but when it comes time to really speak up, every last one of you either goes quiet as a mouse or just does the age old Bermudian thing, and thats repeat what someone else has told you claiming it as the truth. Claiming they know whats going on.

Real talk, from reading all the above and getting a kick out of some of the comments I just have to say that not one of you on here knows exactly whats going on.

Till you walk a mile in someone elses shoes for that matter, then I suggest, no I EMPLOY you, to shut the F@$& up!

            • iThink says:

“Ya’ll are just not smart enough”

if you dont like what people are saying you should gave stopped reading 97 comments ago

people can say whatever they want.

and sound as ignorant as they want.. bernews is like an open forum for peoples thoughts on current events.

no one has to walk in anyones shoes.

if someone engages in activity thats is not socially acceptable, and someone comments on it, oh well get over… people will always have an opinion good or bad.

And Bermudians will always have the same mentalities if we’re constantly telling each other to STFU.

Time to talk… time to get information out there before someone Toddler/Teenager gets killed by a stray bullet!

              • Ya'll are just not smart enough says:

Your comment just further proves what I was saying. So predictable.

    • The Baddest says:

@IThink….Don’t be threatened by the unknown….You are not gonna find the answers trying to interrogate us….if you want answers go to your government…the real problem…and its people like you who try to sit on your high horse and be little the people below…well come down off your high horse and ill show you how we do it on the block..no guns necessary….so before you start chirping off ya beak…check your self..before you try to check up on me,tee and Steven…who have lived through stuff your pampered behind can never handle….so hen you lose friends and family due to this violence, then you can ATTEMPT to seek me out…but i don’t think you’ll like what you find……..And i guess it looks like we know whats going on..cause we are correct..know wonder everyone has a problem with our comments :)

      UNTIL NEXT TIME…

      • iThink says:

thats whats wrong with you people… u think i have been spoon feed? im not on no high horse…

i been on the block, no parents, been working since i was 11, seen friends murdered here and aborad.. dont come to me with no weak ish…

        both my parents on drugs

instead of feeling sorry for my self i made something out of nothing, worked 3 jobs to put myself in school…

you might wanna check yourself before you start making assumptions

        • The Baddest says:

Maybe you need to be interrogated….seems like destruction follows you like a plague.

  27. Simple says:

    One word: RICO. Problem solved.

  28. King Of Diamonds says:

Firstly Sarah; your a living [edited] maybe if you visit this areas you’ll get some knowledge Remember knowledge is POWER!

Most of you know very little to none about whats really going on, just because you stay updated with the media doesnt mean you know whats going on. By no means am i defending any of the actions that are going on but whats the point of “throwing the books” at people who may be innocent to make an example? Your gonna lock up innocent men when you have the real “gang-bangers” run the streets and creating so much more havoc for us all?

Open you eyes and see that most of 42nd’s people are the ones dying so how are they the ones causing this problem? I think thats something for you to think about dont you?

Also lets not look at Kofi’s past, people change and unless you know him personally who are you to say he hasn’t? So lets leave his “stars” out of this.

Yes these 42nd men that have dead were affiliated but that doesnt make them bad people, just because your friends with someones doesnt mean your gonna repeat the same actions as them.

  29. PS says:

Ok so when someone from 42 dies & or when they are labelled as “gang members” they are GOOD people.. Yet the minute someone from Parkside dies or is shot “that’s what they get”… Get you s#it right, 42 IS A GANG ASWELL AS THE REST OF THEM! Wake up idiots!
