Teen Charged With Assaulting Police
17-year-old Troy Hewey, who will turn eighteen on Friday, appeared in Magistrates Court this morning [Dec.21] and pleaded not guilty to a charge of unlawfully assaulting PC Lewis in the Arboretum in Devonshire earlier this week.
The allegation was that Mr Hewey was riding a scrambler type motorcycle in the Devonshire park at approximately 1:25pm this past Monday [Dec.19].
When accosted by Police, Mr Hewey is alleged to have driven the cycle at PC Lewis, thus injuring the policeman such that the PC required hospital treatment.
In determining the next step, Senior Magistrate Archie Warner was told that Mr Hewey was currently on parole. The Magistrate sought information on the use of ‘ankle bracelets’.
He was told by DPP Prosecutor Cindy Clarke and duty Counsel Leopold Mills that the enabling legislation had been passed. However, Mr Mills expressed some uncertainty that it could be implemented today.
The Senior Magistrate remanded Mr Hewey into overnight for a continuation hearing on Friday December 23rd.

I certainly hope he has a fantastic 18th in court *and* in police custody! In fact, I will personally wish him a happy birthday!
Lock his a$$ in Jail for the Holidays. Clearly thats a violation of Parole. If this punk doesn’t spend Christmas behind bars what type of flipping message does this send.
Give him 20 years!!! If he is assaulting Police now, just imagine what he’ll be doing in a few years time if he’s let free.
So he is currently on parole so why are the courts tip toeing around this kid revoke his parole and lock him up. The only thing he is entitled too right now is a jail cell.
Oh no. Poor Uncle Red.
he was just riding a bike and didnt want the police take it….at least he aint out there stabbing and shooting people…why is having fun in a park a crime why are the police even bothering him…all you people are retarded seriously if you think he should get locked up
“just riding a bike” in an area that he was not supose to be riding his bike, might have been different story if your kids or someone you knew was hurt by this guy at the park. There are plenty of other areas designated for riding these types of bikes and this park is not one of them, besides all the bike issue, being on parole says he has already been in trouble before and should have been on his best behavior and not trying to run over the police officer. This type of behavior and support of it from the community is why bermuda’s “Yout” is out of control. I am not refering to all the youth on the island but a large section of the group does fit this description. I have a strong feeling that this guy will be back in the news in the future. May your Christmas be Merry and spent behind bars…
not a large section of the group a very small section. It just so happens that the media does not report the good that a very large section of our youth do. I am so tired of ppl putting everybody in one group when that is not the case. Me being a young black male 16yrs. this sickens me and my friends and we are tired of being linked with all this mess. I beg the media to report the good as well maybe as a headliner instead of in the back with the obituaries.
The law says don’t ride motorbikes in public parks. He rode the scram in the park, thus breaking the law. You break the law, there are consequences. End of story. Doesn’t matter if he didn’t stab/shoot anyone. Laws are laws.
The park is pretty f**king massive. I’m sure he just by chance drive into the cop, right?
Nah, ya boy aimed for the cop, and drove directly at him with the intent to hurt him.
Either that, or the little b*tch don’t know how to ride a bike.
You all are quick to judge, help him dont bring him down hate on someone they hate back. So years to come he is gonna be be more bitter, smh
Quick to judge? Bring him down? More bitter?
1. Boy is on parole.
2. Boy allegedly illegally riding vehicle.
3. Boy allegedly tries to evade authority.
4. Boy allegedly causes injury to authority.
Parole is a second chance (or maybe even his third, fourth or fifth).
Judgment: He should have kept his nose clean and appreciate the leniency of parole.
The only person who is bringing him down is himself, and the only thing he needs to be bitter about is the fact that he allegedly did something so ignorant in the first place.
STOP PACIFYING THEM AND HELP THEM WITH CONSISTENT DISCIPLINARY AND REHABILITATIVE MEASURES.
To be fair, you said it yourself……..ALLEGEDLY!!!!
Who’s doing any hating/bringing down/judging? He was seen breaking the law, then resisted detainment, then assaulted a police officer all equaling breaking the law. This is why Bermuda is going crazy. No one wants to be held accountable for their actions. You do the crime, you do the time. And what’s to be bitter about? Because he got arrested? Yes, our prison system could stand a revamp of the rehabilitation part as more come out worse than when they went in. But he has to realize there are results to every action, and this is his result. Sucks to see yet another young person going through the system.
Again at that…smh
CHOICES PEOPLE CHOICES!!!!!!!!!! OUR CHILDREN HAVE TO LEARN ABOUT THEM AND DAMNIT CLEARLY WE(PARENTS) ARE NOT TEACHING THEM ABOUT CHOICES AND CONSEQUENCES!!!!!! ITS THAT FREAKING SIMPLE!!!!! iF YOU DISAGREE READ THIS AND THINK:
Our children have RIGHTS; with rights come RESPONSIBILITY; with responsibility comes CHOICES; and with choices comes CONSEQUENCES!!!!! If you are not sure what I mean I will clarify with this young man’s scenario:
He has the RIGHT to ride a scrambler; he had the RESPONSIBILITY to ride it in an approrpriate place; he made the CHOICE no to and now must face the CoNSEQUENCE for making a poor choice!!!!!!!
GET IT NOW????????
AMEN!! Das it rite there. No excuses, that’s the truth.
