August 30, 2012

Labour Day organizers have advised that “the afternoon events planned for this year’s Labour Day celebrations [the Uptown Carnival] have been cancelled, however all other events will go on as planned.

Carnival organizer Mr Elmore Warren said, “The Uptown Carnival has been postponed this year due to the lack of our ability to provide some basic infrastructure needed for vendors, staging and sound.

“While the area businesses showed great support they could not shoulder the cost alone. With many artist giving of their time we needed to ensured a seamless , positive, enjoyable experience for all the carnival participants and entertainers.

“This will also give people the chance to adjust to the carnival concept which departs from the traditional parade which we are accustom to.

“Going forward I’m pleased to say we now have a major sponsor on board for next year who believes in the need to assist with some of the positive changes needed in North Hamilton while at the same time making a much needed contribution to the Bermuda Tourism Product.

“Our work continues to get everything in order a year in advance with promotion starting early in the new year locally and overseas. It is said ” if you are going to do something do it right.” This delay assist with making the event the best it can be. The event is scheduled for next year labor day.

“I would like to thank City Hall team, Uptown merchants, Belco, vendors, BEBC, Marshalene Trott, James “Jazz Priest” Richardson, all the press for supporting the event and all he people.

“We are looking forward to next years first Uptown Carnival. Any question call 333 7374. Please look forward and prepare for next years event. Thanks you for your support.”
