Basketball: Panthers, Bluebirds Record Wins
The CellOne Elite City League kicked off last night [May 4] with the defending Champions the Bluebirds handing the expansion team Trinity Sound Lions a welcome to the league by besting them 40 to 27.
High scorers Anthony “Mugzy” Furbert [Bluebirds] and Reggie Tolosa [Trinity Sound Lions] both grabbed 15 points each. Lions owner Mr. Lynwood Richardson said “its a work in progress and there is plenty of season left.”
The second game saw the Fort Knox Panthers take on the Robin Hood Warriors. The Panthers got off to a hot start with Kevin Stevens scoring five 3 pointers in the first half giving his team a 39 to 17 halftime lead over the Warriors.
The second half saw Jason Lowe and Kellen Beckham get hot scoring 12 and 10 respectively for the Warriors, but it was not enough as Ronnie Beuchler scored ten of his 15 and Kevin Stevens added another 8 second half points to give the Panthers a 65-45 win.
Coach Hendrickson said “It was a great start to the season with a win and we will be looking to keep playing well and improving week by week.”
Fans were entertained by the music stylings of DJ Duvon Powell as Somersfield Aacademy saw a modest crowd on hand. The next games will be held on Wednesday at 6:30pm.
