UK Overseas Territories Biodiversity Strategy
The UK Foreign & Commonwealth Office released the “UK Overseas Territories Biodiversity Strategy” document today [May 12], which documents actions undertaken by UK government towards delivering commitments made in the 2010 UK Overseas Territories Biodiversity Strategy.
In describing it they said, “The UK Government wishes to ensure that the rich environmental assets of the Overseas Territories, which attract international recognition and contain an estimated 90% of the biodiversity found within the UK and the Territories combined, are cherished.
“This Update gives examples of some of the ongoing and planned activities that are supported by UK Government Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), Department for International Development (DFID) and its statutory advisor the Joint Nature Conservation Committee (JNCC) in each of the areas under the Biodiversity Strategy – delivering strategic priorities, financial support and improving communication & engagement.”
