49 Year Old Winston Jones Dies In Collision
[Updated] Following the welcome news that there was no loss of life during the hurricane, police have confirmed the tragic fact that a man has died following a road traffic collision this afternoon [Oct 18].
A police spokesperson said, “Around 12:30pm on Saturday, October 18th first responders were dispatched to a reported serious collision involving two motorcycles.
“Details are unclear at this time; however it appears that two motorcycles collided on Court Street in the City of Hamilton near the junction with Reid Street. As a result three people were injured and taken to the hospital via ambulance.
“One of the three involved, a 49 year old male, was seriously injured and subsequently pronounced dead. His passing marks the 11th road fatality for 2014. No further information regarding the deceased will be given until the next of kin have been notified.
“The two other persons injured as a result of this collision are currently receiving treatment for unspecified injuries. A full investigation is underway and any witnesses should contact the main police telephone number 295-0011.”
Update 7.59pm: A police spokesperson said, “Police can now confirm the death of 49 year old Winston Jones who died after the motorcycle he was riding collided with another motorcycle on Court Street in the City of Hamilton near the junction with Reid Street around 12:30pm on Saturday October 18th.
“His passing marks the 11th road fatality for 2014. A family liaison officer has been assigned to assist Mr. Jones family at this difficult time.
“The two other persons injured as a result of this collision are currently receiving treatment for unspecified injuries.
“A full investigation is underway and any witnesses should contact PC Roger Fox of the Roads Policing Unit on 247-1788 or rfox@bps.bm”

It is so hard to wrap your mind around this, when these families have to wake up in the aftermath of the hurricane, and trying to piece themselves together with damages of last night, and then just a few short hours later tragedy strikes like this, somethings is hard to swallow and so to the families, friends no we can not imagine what you are feeling, but please know that words can not be found for the emotions you must be feeling, Bermuda and others around the globe that read Bernews are praying with you and for you.
