19 Year Old Dies After Motorcycle Collision
[Updated] The police have confirmed the death of 19 year old Stephen Chioke Edwards of Sandys following a motorcycle collision in Devonshire.
A police spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 19 year old Stephen Chioke Edwards of Sandys, and extends condolences to his family and friends.
“Mr. Edwards was seriously injured in a road traffic collision on South Road near the junction with Gables Lane Road in Devonshire Parish at 12:40am on Tuesday December 30th. It appears that he was riding his motorcycle when he lost control of his cycle and collided.
“Following the collision Stephen was admitted into the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit, where he remained until his passing.
“A Family Liaison Officer has been assigned Edwards’ family to assist them at this difficult time and a full investigation into this fatal collision is underway.
“The Bermuda Police Service continues to appeal for any witnesses to this fatal collision especially persons that may have information regarding the whereabouts of Stephen Edwards the hours prior to 12:40am on Sunday December 30th, to contact PC Shantia Furbert on sfurbert@bps.bm or 2471161.”
This marks the 15th road fatality of 2014.
Update 9.32pm: A PLP spokesperson said, “Bermuda joins the family of Mr. Stephen Edwards in mourning the tragic loss of this young man. Our prayers and sympathy go out to his family and friends.
“We encourage Bermudians to practice all care, caution and courtesy as they move about the island tonight.”
