The more people who get away with it – The more people who think they can.

    • Onion Juice says:

What makes you think they don’t have a job, did Bernie Maddof have a job.

      • Widget says:

@Onion Juice. For a smart man I wonder about you in this instance. Stay the course and stop drifting. Honestly who really needs to take the risk if they have a job. There lazy criminals. God forbid if they rob you. Just maybe I’ll be stupid enough to bring Bernie into the picture.

      • Northshore says:

Seriously you want to go down that road?

Did Ewart Brown and Paula Cox have a job from 2009 to 2012?

      • steve says:

Bermuda Police have now confirmed= “Bernie Maddof is not a suspect in this Robbery”

    • Fsbod says:

Maybe a cut a** turned them this way?

Children should stop having children!!!! It’s not a government issue…..

      • Onion Juice says:

Children have been having children since the begining of time

        • Jim says:

True, but they didn’t always need to thief and rob to buy $1000 iPhones and gold chains…

        • aceboy says:

That does not make it right though does it? You think single women SHOULD have kids they cannot support? You are an idiot.

  4. Are you kidding me? says:

“Jobs ” these punks don’t want jobs ..

    • Frank says:

      So True!

    • Hurricane says:

@ Are you kidding me?, so true. This has nothing to do with hard times. They wouldn’t work if a job was brought to them.

    • vang says:

to involved in the “gangster style” life. Cut a** no. Never need to see the culprits again if you get my drift. Time to stop babysitting these fools. Face to face they are scared little rabbits pi****g their diapers when the heat is on

  5. Problem says:

These idiots doing these robberies and other anti social behaviors don’t care about jobs. They are just low life’s with guns and think it’s much easier to just go out and rob someone, break into a house or steal a bike and sell the parts for money. Stop using political excuses for these thugs. Even if jobs were plentiful right now they wouldn’t go get one.

  6. ALVIN WILLIAMS says:

If the lack of jobs are not the issue; let’s call their bluff; put more jobs on the table.

  7. Coffee says:

Seems as if every time the minister of national security has a picture taken , soon after a serious crime takes place … He just has no respect …

  8. Born b says:

The way u all are commenting its like you know who did it… smh…. so quick to judge… and the most sickening part is stating momma needs to cut a**es… last I checked a person had two parents. .. sick of people always saying the momma this and the momm that…. ijs

  9. Mary says:

Bermuda is breeding some kinda scumbags on this island

  10. mmm says:

This is another business area/district that can benefit in part with more frequent police officers on foot patrol and road vehicle checkpoints. Empire Grocery was last week, a few days earlier K.F.C. a bit before that 4 Star in Warwick. They found 77 million for Americas Cup, we have soldiers in Warwick Camp, let,s make use of them in check-points with the police. If I was stopped at three check-points in the space of a week, that,s fine …A person with a criminal mind-set will not want to be stopped at road checkpoints at any time, we need to do a bit more to preserve what little businesses we do have.

    • Jus' Askin' says:

How easily we would give up Freedom for Security :-(
Something needs to happen, to allow businesses the ability to protect their staff and finances!!!
Businesses are sitting ducks and cameras only help after the fact and even then they may be useless.
These people know it is like taking candy from a baby, because they know there will be little to no resistance.
What are their rights to defending themselves?

  11. bluebird says:

    The OBA and jobs >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
There are 12,000 (twelve thousand jobs out there available)
    so stop your ignorant nonsense.

  12. NO MORE WAR says:

Sad but remember the chief Constable is cutting jobs on the BPS as a result of governments cuts to his budget. Why don’t we scale back the Governors mason and be done with the post of Premier. Why do police have to guard the governor and the Premier? All those post should be manned by the regiment or a security firm. That way there could be a couple more active patrols to assist with prompt response to violent crimes. It’s not rocket science.

  13. frank says:

    Where are they

  14. rodney smith says:

Ladies and Gentlemen, We must accept that Bermuda has produced a permanent under class . It is likely that we will only see more of this type of crimes all over the island . There are some key root causes that we must address. Unemployment is important because it provides 4 benefits to an individual ; 1). It regulates your time. i.e. you can’t be on the job and some where else at the same time., 2). It gives you an positive identity, i.e. we know what mason , or a plumber do, And we ascribe positive descriptions to them . On the other hand, being a robber is seen as very negative. 3). It allows us to make new friends, ; i.e. Look back, and you will see that most of our new friends have provided us with new opportunities and contacts to get ahead . 4). Work provides us with the skills to improve ourselves ; i.e. in most cases we start at a very low level on a job, and work our way up. Over time we get to improve on our skills, and before long, taking on greater responsibilities. Mr. Premier, JOBS ARE KEY.

    • Hm says:

Jobs are not key if the people are uneducated.

Bermuda could open up 10,000 jobs tomorrow however most people will not QUALIFY for those jobs. They do not have any form of degree or certification.

“That’s great you have 15 years experience, but we require [plumbing] certification”

      Happens all the time!

      • rodney smith says:

Hm, Do you have a real name? Maybe your parents forgot how to spell your name. EDUCATED or NOT, EVERYONE DESERVES A JOB.I only gave you the benefits from having a job. Please be positive for ONCE.

        • serengeti says:

“EDUCATED or NOT,EVERYONE DESERVES A JOB”.

Those days are gone, if they ever existed. If you want a job, get off your a.** and make yourself employable.

        • Hm says:

I do not see what my loving, supportive parents have to do with this??

A job is not given. You think those Bermudians who have degrees/certifications (Accountants,Plumbers, Insurance, Restaurant owners, etc) are unemployed? No, it is the men and women who have no education. A GED or high school education lands someone in a low wage job, for example a cashier working a a grocery store. These types of jobs are not meant to support a family. These types of jobs are for high school/college kids who need a little money.

With a education, you still may not get the job…BUT you are more qualified for the position -VS- a high school education or GED.

Benefits from having a job? What do you mean by this?

          • Hm says:

Also, what about the people who read and write on a 5th grade level? Those types of people are hard to employ due to the fact that they lack the BASIC skills to enter the work force. [[Maybe this is an issue with Bermuda's education system]]

Or the ones with criminal convictions? Many jobs require a clean background. Obviously, the guy/gal caught stealing … isn’t going to be hired as a bank teller.

  15. rodney smith says:

More importantly, something is happening in the Black Community that we must address . While all other ethnic groups on the island enjoy FULL EMPLOYMENT , blacks are left walking the streets looking for jobs . So we make up 90% of the prison population , and 100% of the murder by gun group. Note, the 7% who report to be unemployed are mostly all black. We must wake up and see what is going on. In the meantime, reach out and HELP A FRIEND during these hard times. We must pull together , in order to survive. We need LEADERSHIP IN THE BLACK COMMUNITY.

    • Just saying says:

Rodney you sound like the leader the Black Community Needs. Get to it!
      just saying!

      • rodney smith says:

I’m too busy recovering from old wounds. The Black Community is not very kind to people with ideas.

        • hmmm says:

Ideas achieve nothing. We all have ideas … I get around 50 a day some of which are great. Means nothing.

        • Ed Case says:

Why aren’t you instructing the black community to pray Mr Smith? That’s how you want to fix gun violence in the story above – maybe that’s how unemployment should get fixed too.

At the same time they could pray to get a house with no money down.

    • Toodle-oo says:

All other ethnic groups on the island are NOT enjoying full employment .

      • rodney smith says:

PLEASE NAME THEM.LET’s COMPARE THEM BY PERCENTAGES. TOODLE-OO

        • Toodle-oo says:

So , now you’re asking for percentages ? Sounds as if you know very well that you embellished on your ‘facts’

If you think that only blacks are amongst the unemployed you really need to get out and meet more people Rodney .

        • serengeti says:

“all other ethnic groups on the island enjoy FULL EMPLOYMENT”

          Obviously nonsense.

    • Education* says:

Due to lack of education? Or certification?

EXAMPLE: That’s great that you (a plumber) have 15 years experience, but we require CERTIFICATION. With out certification you do not qualify which means you do not get a job. Happens all the time.

Pull together talk some sense into ALL OF YOUR CHILDREN (Black, white, I don’t care what) so they can plan for the future.

      • hmmm says:

Then get a certification…not hard to find the solution to that problem is it.

    • Widget says:

@Rodney. Explain where the leadership fails and who should be leading the charge.

My father always told me That if you give a man a fish you feed him for a day. Teach him how to fish and you feed him for life.

  16. oh dear says:

Bet the robbers were speeding thru Flatts too!

  17. mmm says:

    I2,000 jobs available ? I hardly see 100 advertised

    • Hm says:

Bermuda job board has over 7,000 open jobs

      • Toodle-oo says:

As of 2.30pm Jan 22nd there are 169 listings totaling 256 positions .
Where the h**l are you getting your number of 7000 from ?

        • aas says:

Please contact BJB. Presentation from last week stated “Over 7000 open jobs on BJB”

  18. mmm says:

Further, I went to a local restaurant for the average working person. The order was taken and served by a foreign waiter who was courteous, prompt and professional, he was not the chef, I can see the kitchen from where I sat. This job, serving tables and counter service at various medium size local restaurants could have been done by Bermudians. I have worked shift work for many years, so making early time, working late etc is not and has not been a problem, true enough a few do. But there needs to be a second look at hiring practices, let,s look at skill sets, training and up-ward mobility. What happen to the Technical Institute and Stonington Hotel Training College ?

  19. mmm says:

It I am correct, they introduced the hospital levy tax over 20 years ago to off-set in part the cost of building the hospital, they also have pay-roll, departure tax, sin tax, if these were increased marginally, then more police officers can be employed with very, very specific responsibilities.

  20. mmm says:

The same way they had the hospital levy tax, the police budget can be funded.x

    • rodney smith says:

BERMUDA IS OVER POLICED. Just having more police will not cut down on crime. We must remove the root causes that leads a person to a life of crime.

  21. Allday says:

It might be too early to say this (I hope that’s what it is) but it’s hard for me to believe that the police can’t provide the public with a picture or video of the two people that committed this crime. The gas station its self has cameras as well as the many business that are located along that stretch of road in flatts. If the police can’t provide the public with important information like what they were wearing what bike they were riding and other information like that how do they expect the public to aid in their investigation.. I am truely thankful for what bda police service has done for our island but this is ridiculous…

  22. Widget says:

Go to the USA, Canada or the UK, sit in a restaurant and tell me if the person serving you was BORN in that country. The answer is more then likely they were BORN outside that country.

  23. Butt Fa+t says:

Sick and tired. Black white, rich poor, jobs no jobs, excuses are dime a dozen. These are CRIMES of opportunity by stupid brain dead DGAF little baby as*h***s that soon will KILL some one probably in fright as they pee their pants. They know what they are doing so CUT THE EXCUSES. Live by the sword DIE by the sword. But NO we mollycoddle and cry when they do this BS. STAND UP BERMUDA. WE are all in this together. We the PEOPLE who OUTNUMBER the little DH’s, know something and should say what we know so these little baby bandits go before the courts to get a slap on the wrist. GET REAL. Do it North Korea and see where they are put.
