22-Year-Old Azah Dowling Dies After Collision
[Updated: The Bermuda Police Service have confirmed the death of 22-year-old Azah Dowling of Sandys]
The police have confirmed that a 22-year-old man has died following a collision on Middle Road in Sandys this evening.
Police Media Manager Dwayne Caines said, “At 7.46pm police and first responders attended a report of a road traffic collision that took place on Middle Road in Sandys adjacent to the Maxi Mart Supermarket.
“It appears that a 22-year-old male was traveling on west on a motorcycle when he collided with a car that was traveling in the other direction.
“That man was taken to KEMH where he was later pronounced dead. The scene is now being processed by the Forensic Support Unit as well as the Traffic Collision Investigators.
“Police are asking the patience of the public as traffic is being diverted in the area. No further information on the victim will be given until the next of kin has been notified.”
“A number of individuals were in the area at the time of the collision, and the police are appealing for witnesses to contact PC 2360 Pereira on 717-2360.”
“This marks the third road traffic fatality for 2016.”
Update 9.27pm: A Police spokesperson said, “Police and first responders attended a report of a road traffic collision. That road collision took place on Middle Road in Sandys adjacent to the Maxi Mart Supermarket.
“It appears that a 22-year-old man on a motorcycle was traveling west on Middle Road when he collided with a car traveling in an easterly direction. As a result, the 22-year-old male on the motorcycle was taken to the King Edward Memorial Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
“The scene has been cordoned off and officers of the Traffic Enforcement Unit as well as the Forensic Support Unit are now processing the scene. Traffic is being diverted to the surrounding areas. We are asking the neighborhood residents to be patient while the scene is being processed.
“No further information will be given about the deceased until the next of kin has been notified. Police are appealing for witness to this collision to contact PC Pereira on 717-2360.”
Update March 26, 12.12pm: A police spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 22-year-old Azah Dowling of Sandys who died as a result of a road traffic collision that took place on Friday at 7:46pm on Middle Road in Sandys just adjacent to the Maxi Mart.
“It appears that Azah was traveling west when he apparently lost control of his motorcycle and collided with a car traveling in the opposite direction. He subsequently was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead at 8:16pm.
“A family liaison officer has been appointed to the family and an investigation into this road fatality is now underway. Anyone who may have seen this collision or anyone that can shed light on the last hours of Mr. Dowling’s life [between 4:30pm - 7:30pm] is asked to contact PC Pereira on 717-2360.
“The Bermuda Police Service would like to extend our sympathies to the family and friends of the deceased. This marks the 3rd road fatality for 2016.”
