Lamont Marshall Runs 8K In Under 24 Minutes

March 12, 2017

On March 4, Lamont Marshall – representing Bermuda at the NACAC Cross Country Championships held in Boca Raton, Florida — became the first Bermudian to run under 24:00 minutes at the 8K distance.

Clocking 23:59, Marshall finished a credible 12th in a race won by American Abbabiya Simbassa in 22:40. This milestone was the second within a three week period, as he also broke the 3,000 meter record on February 11th in Boston, Massachusetts.

The race also served as preparation as the current 24th May champion attempts to qualify for this year’s World Championships in the 3,000 meter steeplechase to be held in London, England.

Next up for Marshall is a 5,000 meter race in Raleigh, North Carolina on March 24 as he attempts to break his own record, which stands at 14:27.
