YAO Baseball League: Marlins & Angels Win
The YAO Baseball League continued this weekend with a double header which saw the Marlins defeat the Angels 14-8, and the Angels defeat the Cubs 15-14.
Marlins Defeat Angels 14-8
Angels stayed in it until the end, after building a 7-0 lead, but the Marlins chipped away and then pulled away late in a 14-8 victory on Saturday. The game was tied at eight with Marlins batting in the top of the sixth when Zaire Lodge singled off of Tyrse Charves, driving in three runs.
Despite the loss, Angels did collect five hits in the high-scoring affair. Unfortunately, Marlins had four hits on the way to victory. Conner Somerville led Marlins with three stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with nine stolen bases. Billy Montgomery led the Marlins in pitching. Striking out 4 over 3 innings.
Angels Defeat Cubs 15-14
A walk-off left the Cubs on the wrong end of a 15-14 defeat to Angels on Saturday. The game was tied at 14 with Angels batting in the bottom of the sixth when Stephon Paynter homered for the win.
Cubs fell behind early by five runs in the fourth inning, but fought back and tied the game.
Angels’s big inning was driven by a triple by Stephon Paynter, and a single by Kaelin Paynter.
The Cubs had 15 hits in the game. Led by Sam Resnik 4-4 and 3 RBI’s and Liam McCue 2-3. Somers Mello and Jaden Malpas also contributed key hits. Angels collected 16 hits, led by Stephon Paynter, Jackson Spurling. Kaelin Paynter led Angels with three stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with eight stolen bases.
