BSSF Middle School Track/Field Championships
Dellwood Middle School captured their third consecutive Bermuda School Sports Federation Middle School Track and Field Championships at the National Sports Center.
Dellwood were almost 180 points ahead of their nearest rival with a total of 596.5 points. The race for second place was much closer with Whitney Institute Middle School finishing 8.5 points ahead of T.N. Tatem Middle School with 418 points.
Dellwood were clear winners in the Overall Girls Division with 332 points followed by Whitney with 190 and T.N. Tatem with 180.50. Sandy’s Secondary were top of the tables in the Overall Boys Division with 274. Dellwood finished second on 264.50 and T. N. Tatem third with 229 points.
Zahriah Outerbridge from T.N. Tatem was crowned the Champion Girl in the Under 12 Girls Division. Outerbridge won the 400 meters with a time of 1:07.07, Outerbridge also won the 800 meters in a time of 3:00.74. Outerbridge completed her medal haul with Bronze Medals in the 1500 meters and Relay.
There was no stopping Khari Sharrieff as he won three individual Gold Medals. The Whitney Institute student won the Under 12 Boys High Jump, 800 meters and 1500 meters. Sharrieff stopped the clock at 2:40.09 in the 800 meters and 5:08.60 in the 1500 meters.
The Under 13 Girls Champion award went to 200 meter, 400 meter and 800 meter Champion Ramiah Brangman from Saltus Grammar School. Brangman’s busy day started with victory in the 200 meters with a time of 28.99. she would go on to win the 400 meters in 1:03.15 before capturing Gold in the 800 meters in the driving rain with a time of 2:36.94.
Sandy’s Secondary Middle School’s Jaelyn Grant and Chance Eve from T.N. Tatem Middle school shared top honors in the Under 13 Boys Division with 24 points each. Eve was a double winner after winning the 200 meters and Long Jump events. Eve edged out 100 meter champion Malachi Henry from Warwick Academy in the 200 meters with a time of 26.65 seconds. Eve claimed his second Gold with a leap of 5.27 meters in the Long Jump. In the Long Jump Grant finished in third place. Grant would go on to win the 800m in a time of 2:34.96 and finish second in the 400 meters.
Jahstice Grant’s position as Champion Girl was never in question as she rolled on to win the 100 meters, 200 meters and the Long Jump while also anchoring Dellwood Middle School to first place in the relay. Grant won the 100 meters in a time of 13.68, and the 200 meters in 27.65 seconds. Her leap of 4.38 meters was enough for her to claim her third Individual Gold Medal.
The Over 13 Boys Champion was Atayio Burgess from Dellwood Middle School who won all three Jumping events during the two days. Burgess won the Long Jump with a leap of 5.59 meters and soared above all others in the High Jump with a leap of 1.66 meters. He would go on to win the Triple Jump with a best leap of 11.87 meters.
