Duperreault New Project Action Honorary Director
Project Action, who provides free transportation for seniors & physically challenged persons, have announced Brian Duperreault as the charity’s new Honorary Director.
A spokesperson said, “Many people take for granted their mode of transportation, but for many seniors they do not have any access to private nor public transportation. This is how Project Action is an asset to our community.
“We’ve helped with over 1500 rides per year in the pass and would like to continue providing this very needed free seniors transport service. As was shared with us “that may seem very simple to most but for our seniors this ordinary thing is an extraordinary gift.”
Mrs Cindy Swan shared, “I am pleased to announce that Mr. Brian Duperreault will become Honorary Director of Project Action, Charity #561, providing Free Transportation for Seniors & Physically Challenged. We are extremely grateful to have Brian on our team.”
Mrs. Swan, Project Action Chairperson shared, “We at Project Action are celebrating our 20th Anniversary this year and we are excited to have Brian join our team in our efforts to provide Free Transportation for Seniors and Physically Challenged. “
“While it’s a 20 year milestone year for us at Project Action, sadly, our services are needed as much or more today than in 1999. With diabetes being extremely prevalent in Bermuda, our service adapted to this growing demand which saw an increase in request for early morning rides to dialysis unit.”
The spokesperson said, “Project Action which started in 1999, was founded by political wives Cindy Swan and the late Judith Stewart who became connected to Seniors by reading and singing to them at the St. George’s Parish Rest Home. Their fundraising initiative to buy one bus for St. George’s Parish Home was greatly enhanced and their vision was merged with the wisdom of the late Sir John Plowman.
“Sir John convinced the ladies to make their philanthropy service available to the entire island; Sir John then connected the ladies with the late David Barber who purchased two original busses and Project Action was launched.
“Today as Project Action introduce Mr. Brian Duperreault as Honorary Director, we are reminded of our Directors who have passed on and pay homage to their contribution and rich legacy – the late Sir John Plowman, F. John Barritt, Kim Young, Reginald Burrows and our co-founder Judith Stewart.
“While Brian Duperreault needs no introduction to Bermuda or in the global business community, we are delighted to share [via Wikipedia our source]: Brian Duperreault and his wife Nancy have three sons, and he credits his career success to his Jesuit education at Saint Joseph’s University – he is a devout Catholic.
“Following an already successful business career where he became an industry leader – he is presently the president and chief executive officer of American International Group [AIG] since May 2017.
“He is credited by the Insurance Hall of Fame with helping to transform Bermuda from an island nation with a small, reinsurance-focused market into a global insurance centre. He currently resides in Bermuda.
“In Bermuda where presently there’s an overwhelming ageing population and the government spending millions of dollars on senior initiatives, Project Action seeks to continue fulfilling the transportation niche for seniors in Bermuda.
“Presently the charity is in need of funds to hire a full-time driver and are asking the Corporate business and the community at large for financial donations to help us. If you can help, please contact us at bermudaprojectaction@gmail.com or 535-9801.”
