Weeks: We Need To Address Homelessness

May 13, 2019 | 16 Comments

“Homelessness must be eradicated in this country,” MP Michael Weeks said in the House of Assembly, saying that “it is time for us as a country to invest in a multi purpose facility that will address the changing needs of our homeless.”

“This is not a finger pointing at our Government, but a clarion call to both sides of this aisle in this Honorable House and our whole community at large, to assist in addressing this issue of homelessness once and for all,” Mr Weeks said.

“Homelessness is not a political issue, so let’s not politicize it. We cannot continue to beat our collective chests talking about our standard of living in Bermuda when we have our people, largely black men, living on the streets, in doorways, in parks, in the bushes around Bermuda… for whatever reason they are homeless. If we don’t take care of the least among us, then we need to hang our collective heads in shame.”

Yes we do, at the rate you continue to increase fees and taxes, many more of us will be homeless. So many of us live paycheck to paycheck, Mr. weeks.

There was a time when many of us took second jobs or did hustles to get ahead. Now most of us have to work extra jobs , just to keep up.

    Thanks for everything!

Nothing wrong with hard work! I was able to buy 2 homes by working hard and now I can relax and enjoy my retirement! It’s a good train so get on it and stop blaming everyone else including Govt for your situation! God bless!

      • Double S says:

“It’s a good train so get on it and stop blaming everyone else including Govt for your situation! God bless!”

Now that has to be the most ironic quote from a PLP supporter in the history of the PLP! Most of the time you guys blame everyone else for your issues and situation. Amazing what an election can do to one’s mindset.

        • Toodle-oo says:

Especially when you consider that anyone who doesn’t look like him but does the same thing and is mortgaged to the hilt is accused of having it given to them due to privilege.
Heard and seen it all before .

      • Seriously says:

I trust that if you purchased those two homes and they are paid for and you are now relaxing and retired you did so during the UBP years when things were good, jobs were plentiful and paid well. So please get off your high horse and listed to those that are trying to buy a home and worried about keeping a job. These are different times Mr. Retired.

    • Seriously says:

God gives you what you need and not what you want!

      • Pork & Bean says:

Yes, God gives me what I need. I just hate when the government takes it from me and my family. Like the Bible says “Thou shalt not steal!”

Why are you not critical of the government and telling them to me happy with what they have instead of taking all that they want!

Stop the BS. You should be ashamed of yourself for trying to deflect the actions of this greedy government. We have learnt not to drink the purple koolaid.

      • LaV says:

        LOL@seriously

        there is no god.

      • Bluenose says:

‘God’? You rely on a non-existent entity to give you what you need? SMDH!

        • Take it easy says:

You will be singing a different tune when you are on your death bed!

          • Anbu says:

No we wont lmao. We dont care abt your fairytails. When u die u die. Poof! Gone like a fart in the wind. Only u thumpers fear it so much u gotta buy ur way into heaven. Guess what…..: that aint real either lol

          • LaV says:

“You will be singing a different tune when you are on your death bed!”

LOL…IF there is a god, you’ll be cryin hard when she sends you to hell for being such a hate filled bigot. LOL

  2. aceboy says:

When you lot elect friends as Minister’s with no portfolio just so they can collect paychecks and hire 6 figure consultants who have no qualifications for the role(s) at the tax payer’s expense AND hand over 1.2M to a former Premier, it is very RICH of you to now voice concerns over homeless people. You lot need to hang your heads in shame, not us.

“Homelessness must be eradicated in this country,” MP Michael Weeks said in the House of Assembly, saying that “it is time for us as a country to invest in a multi purpose facility that will address the changing needs of our homeless.”

Why not use the Grand Atlantic facility? It has been sitting empty for years.

  4. question says:
