City Of Hamilton Hosting School Essay Contest
The City of Hamilton is hosting a School Essay Contest, as part of its ongoing recognition of its 225th anniversary of service to the City.
A spokesperson said, “The essay topic is ‘Homelessness in the City of Hamilton: How do we Deal With the Challenge?’ The City has reached out directly to schools in the hopes that students will embrace this opportunity to contribute their thoughts and ideas and be a part of the solution.”
City COO and Secretary, Dwayne Caines, said of the contest, “The City is keenly aware of the challenges that face our homeless population and how their plight affects the fabric of our community.
“We are actively working with community partners and helping organizations in an effort to curb the problem and identify sound solutions. This contest serves to involve our students in that discovery. It serves to educate them about something they might not know even exists, to bring increased awareness to the issue and to solicit their ideas.”
“The two contest categories are Middle and High School students. The essay should be 300 – 500 words and highlight original ideas on how to combat the challenge of homelessness in Hamilton. Submissions can be dropped off to City Hall reception by Friday, March 6, 2020, at 5:00pm or submitted digitally to info@cityhall.bm.
“Cash prizes will be awarded to the First, Second and Third place winners. Additionally, all winners will be invited to City Hall for the opportunity to read their essays to the Mayor, City Council and invited guests.”
