Elan Daley Wins Gold Medals & Breaks Records
Elan Daley recently took to the Toronto Pan Am Center to compete in the 2020 Winter Ontario Swimming Long Course Championships hosted by the Etobicoke Swim Club, winning the girls’ 15 age group Ontario Provincial High Point Championship Award.
During the women’s 15-year-old 200 LC meter IM preliminaries, Daley finished seventh with a time of 2:26.17, breaking the Bermuda age group record of 2:31.76 that was held by Morgan Hopkins since April 16, 2009. Daley then finished fourth in the women’s 15-year-old 50 LC meter freestyle preliminaries, touching the wall in a time of 27.21.
In the women’s 15-year-old 200 LC Meter IM final, Daley clocked a time of 2:25.79, which broke the record that she had set earlier. She won the gold medal competing in the women’s 15-year-old 50 LC meter freestyle by clocking a time of 26.62, which broke Madelyn Moore’s previous record time of 26.65 set back on May 23, 2015.
Daley clocked the fastest women’s 15-year-old 200 LC meter freestyle preliminary time of 2:05.31, before finishing in 10th in the women’s 15-year-old 100 LC Meter Butterfly, touching the wall in a time of 1:04.78.
The swimmer then won the women’s 15-year-old 200 LC meter freestyle gold medal by touching the wall in a time of 2:04.10, en route to finishing in sixth after competing in the women’s 15-year-old 100 LC meter butterfly final, clocking a time of 1:04.48.
With a time of 56.87, Daley clocked the fastest women’s 15-year-old 100 LC meter freestyle preliminary time, breaking Emma Harvey’s time of 58.05 set on March 12, 2017; the time also broke Kiera Aitken’s women’s open record time set on July 30, 2009.
Daley then finished eighth competing in the women’s 15-year-old 100 LC meter breaststroke, clocking a time of 1:19.01, before finishing in 10th competing in the women’s 15-year-old 200 LC meter backstroke preliminaries with a time of 2:28.05; breaking Rebecca Sharpe’s previous record time of 2:28.30, set on March 30, 2008.
During the women’s 15-year-old 100 LC meter freestyle final, Daley broke her own record by clocking a gold medal time of 56.78. She finished the women’s 15-year-old 200 LC meter backstroke in 10th place with a time of 2:28.33.
Daley finished with the silver medal competing in the women’s 15-year-olds 800 LC meter freestyle by clocking a time of 9:20.81, breaking Vanessa Esposito’s age group and women’s open time record of 9:27.95 set on April 4, 2015.
