Antonio Pierce Released By New York Giants
Bermudian NFL player Antonio Pierce has been released by the New York Giants, ending the 31-year-old middle linebacker’s five-year stint with the Giants.
Mr. Pierce reportedly signed a six year, $26 million dollar contract with the Giants in 2005, and had one year and $4.75 million left.
He suffered a neck injury which forced him to miss the final seven games of the 2009 season, which appears to be the catalyst to the Giants releasing him.
Mr.Pierce and his agent believe he’ll have teams interested in him provided he can prove he’s healthy enough to play.
He said:
I told both Tom Coughlin and Jerry Reese that I have no animosity. I have no anger. It’s nowhere near that kind of situation. You might not agree with everything that’s said, but you understand how the game is.
I have nothing but very strong love for the New York Giants. Obviously, I wanted to end it when my contract ended, but it didn’t. It ended a year early. But I have no regrets.
