The Bermuda Hospitals Board [BHB] will present a community lecture tomorrow [May 19] at 6:00pm at the Botanical Gardens Visitor Centre. Members of the public are invited to learn about health concerns that affect over 600 people in our community.
“Food Intolerances and Digestive System Disorders: Celiac Disease, Food Allergies and More” will feature guest speaker and international specialist, Dr. Sheila Crowe, who will discuss the latest research and treatment options in the field of food-induced digestive diseases.
Dr. Crowe is a Professor in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology in the Department of Medicine at the University of Virginia and has served as a medical advisor for the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America. She is the author of various articles and book chapters on her areas of expertise, which include celiac disease, GI food allergies and intolerances.
In addition to the public presentation, Dr. Crowe will speak to healthcare professionals May 19th as part of BHB’s Continuing Medical Education (CME) Programme. Designed to keep pace with advances in medicine, technology, research and changes in the healthcare environment, CME lectures offer learning opportunities to physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals in the hospital and in the community.
Dr. Annie Pinto, Medical Director of the CME Programme said:
We are delighted to have brought Dr. Crowe to Bermuda to share her expertise and skills in the field of digestive diseases. Hospital staff and other medical professionals have greatly benefited from attending our CME presentations. Dr. Crowe’s lecture is both timely and relevant, as we recognize the growing number of people in Bermuda who are being diagnosed with digestive disorders.
This is a great opportunity to hear a renowned, international expert talk about issues affecting our community. If you or someone you know suffers from digestive distress, we invite you to attend this informative evening.
