Football Disciplines: Suspensions & Probations
The governing body of football on the island, the Bermuda Football Association [BFA], announced a number of actions included placing an entire team on probation for a year and suspending a player for a year. The Disciplinary Committee reached the following decisions during recent hearings:
Gary “Tubba” Mallory of Devonshire Recreation Club
- Mr Mallory has been suspended for a year to end April 30, 2011. The BFA decision stems from a match in the PDL semifinals of the Martonmere Cup between Devonshire Cougars vs Boulevard Blazers on April 10, 2010. Mr Mallory was found to have been guilty of “Behavior designed to bring game into disrepute, Threatening Referee, Verbally abusing match officials”.
Jaciano Furbert-Wade of Devonshire Recreation Club
- Stemming from a April 10, 2010 under 16 youth match between Devonshire Cougars and North Village Rams, the BFA made findings of “Behavior designed to bring game into disrepute – Attempting to assault the referee.” Mr Furbert-Wade received a sanction of a 4 game suspension and 2 football years’ probation [ending April 30, 2012]
Omark Shakir – Pembroke Hamilton Club
- Stemming from a March 7, 2010 Premier Division match between PHC Zebras and Devonshire Cougars, the BFA made findings of “Behavior designed to bring game into disrepute, Violent Conduct, pushing/shoving opponent, Failure to leave field after being sent off.” Mr Shakir has been suspended for 4 games.
Joshua Butterfield – of Devonshire Recreation Club
- Stemming from a March 7, 2010 Premier Division match between PHC Zebras and Devonshire Cougars, the BFA made findings of “Behavior designed to bring game into disrepute, Violent Conduct, standing on opponents back”. Mr Butterfield has been suspended for 2 games.
Brian Anderson – X’Roads Warriors Football Club
- Stemming from a Feb 21, 2010 First Division match between X’Road’s and Robin Hood, the BFA made findings of “Behavior designed to bring game into disrepute, Verbally abusing the referee”. Mr Anderson has been suspended for 2 games, and placed probation for one football year, ending April 30, 2011.
Devonshire Colts Football Club
- Stemming from a Jan 9th, 2010 under 10 youth match of the Devonshire Colts and Hamilton Parish. The BFA made findings of “Behavior designed to bring game into disrepute, Failure to control a member of your club.” The club is on probation for one football year, ending April 30, 2011. The incident resulted from displeasure from the parents of the players after BFA technical director Derek Broadley stopped the game saying Devonshire’s coach Johnny Robinson did not meet the BFA coaching requirements of having a D Licence.
