Dr. Gina Tucker To Continue At Education
The Department of Education today [June 28] announced that Dr. Gina Tucker will continue in her post as Policy and Project Officer within the Department of Education.
After an arbitration hearing which recommended that both parties be transferred to another school site or to the Department, Dr. Tucker decided to accept an offer of secondment to work in the Department as Policy and Project Officer.
Commissioner of Education, Mrs. Wendy McDonell, said:
Dr. Tucker was moved to the Department of Education where she has made valuable contributions to the development of the Blueprint for Education and other policy issues. I look forward to the continued contribution that she is making with regard to the Department’s organizational priorities and strategic directions.
The Department moved to clarify Dr. Tucker’s role since her secondment, as there have been reports which implied that Dr. Tucker had been dismissed from her role as Principal at Victor Scott Primary School. The Department also stated that Victor Scott’s academic performance and overall standing improved significantly during Dr. Tucker’s eight year tenure as principal. Saying it was as a result of her demonstrated leadership abilities, Prof. Hopkins recommended to the Interim Education Board that she serve as the chair of the Principal Leadership Team.
Dr. Tucker had been slated to return to her role of Principal at Francis Patton Primary School in September, 2010. The Department says that as a result of Dr. Tucker’s contributions over the last several months, and the changes to the public school system that are being contemplated, it was determined that Dr. Tucker’s skills would have a significant impact at the Department level.
Dr. Tucker said:
I feel that I have made significant contributions to student learning while at Victor Scott, and have decided that the time had come to move on to new professional challenges. I will miss the day to day interactions with children and teachers, but I look forward to being able to contribute to the education system as a whole.
Francis Patton teachers and parents fought hard! Well done. I still want to know why would someone be removed from a school when they are doing good there? That makes no sense at all! Sounds fishy.
