Horseshoe Beach Closed Due To Man O Wars
[Updated, beach now open] One of Bermuda’s most popular beaches has been closed today to swimmers [June 17] due to the high number of Portuguese Man O War and Jelly Fish. By midday today there have been 15 people treated for stings, and the lifeguards are trying to reduce further injury to beach patrons.
Lifeguards are at present clearing the beach and waters of as many of the Man O War and Jelly Fish as they can and will make a further assessment of opening sections of the beach in due course.
The Department of Parks today advised that in the interest of health and safety the beach has been closed for swimming, and said the smaller enclosed cove at the back of the restaurant is still open to swimming. The Department continued on to say that the cooperation of the general public is greatly appreciated and beach patrons are asked to obey the instructions of the lifeguards on duty.
Update 4:41pm: The Lifeguard Superintendent has confirmed that Horseshoe Bay is now fully open to the general public for swimming. The Portuguese Man O war signs and the yellow flags are flying to advise beach patrons to still use caution while swimming. If additional information is required one can contact the Department of Parks at 236-5902 between 8:30 am and 5 pm on Friday to get any updates.

Maybe IB can save us. Call Dooperralt and AIG they know how to ….. ‘Invade Bermuda’…
As for the Jelly Fish…………………is that in relation to Government and Ministers…………………….
Actually, we just drove in their for a minute and the tourists all seem happy as pie. They are all on the beach, sunbathing, hanging out, eating etc…
My comments were related to your headline. The beach is closed to swimmers.
I appreciate they are already there but cannot frolic in those waters………………..
Hey…as they say……”S……happens……..
“Stings ” thats is.
Keep up the great work.
Thanks….we were interested to see how many were still there even though they couldn’t go in the water. Gauging numbers isn’t our forte, but it looked packed, people everywhere….
