Latin & Rumba°r To Offer Live Music
Latin restaurant and Rumba°r will be offering a Supper Club live music experience at its urban courtyard in Hamilton on every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.
Howard Rego, who is well known as one of Bermuda’s musical talents having played drums professionally for the likes of Sly and the Family Stone and many others, will be creating a Latin/Jazz/Funk sound with his band Beats Working.
Robert Saunders, Manager of Latin and Rumba°r explained the idea of the Hot August Nights event was planted by previous shows such as the successful Festival Latino featuring Grammy award winning Willy Torres, and also one off shows such as Sybil Barrington’s show stopping “Queen of Bermuda” Revue that garnered international press, both events having the town talking for weeks. “During Festival Latino”, said Mr. Saunders, “guests were amazed at the design of the space, and commented that the courtyard area, with balcony dining, comfortable lounge style seating and outdoor dance floor was like nothing else in Bermuda. They asked us to do it again, and we are doing just that!”
Sponsored by Bermuda Premium Spirits Limited, distributor of BACARDI® rum in Bermuda, Hot August Nights aims to be a Bermuda-centric experience, made to be thoroughly of the moment.
Mr Rego said, “Phil Barnett (the President of Island Restaurant Group Ltd. which owns Latin) and I discussed trying to create something that everyone in Bermuda could grab hold of. We discussed how Hubie’s had shut down and how so many people were begging for someone to start up another rocking drinks, dinner, and dancing event that was just as much fun as Hubie’s. Phil was saying that he wanted something like the degree sign in his name Rumba°r hints at, which of course is HOT, which of course I can do! We are inviting local and overseas guest artists such as Tim DeHuff to gig with us when they are in town, so expect an ever changing playlist not only of Latin rhythms (samba, clave, montuno, etc.), but also reggae, R & B, funky jazz and straight ahead jazz. Man, I can’t wait!”
For the Hot August Nights promotion, Howard Rego and Beats Working will be playing from 7:00 until 10:00 PM every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday nights in the courtyard at Latin (weather dependent), with dinner reservations (especially for the much requested balcony tables overlooking the performances) highly recommended. Food offerings from Chef de Cuisine Tomasz Tabor are “Lounge Casual” down in Rumba°r, with two course meals only $22, and upstairs at Latin the offering is more fine dining inclined, with a spectacular 140 bottle wine list. The restaurant can be reached at 296-5050 or via email at latin “at” irg.bm.
