Larry Mussenden Elected New Football President

September 29, 2010

In a vote that finished 13 -7, Larry Mussenden has been elected as the New President of the Bermuda Football Association this evening (Sept 29) beating out Mark Wade for the position. Mr Mussenden, a lawyer by trade, replaces Richard Calderon who announced he would step down back in July of this year.

Mr Mussenden was running alongside Calvin Blankendal and Andrew Griffith for positions they once held in the BFA, calling themselves the Trio Ticket. The trio had said “We have been in these exact Officer positions before spanning the period 2001—2008 when, as part of a team, we led in the continued success and development of the BFA. Once again, we offer ourselves as a Trio with a broad span of knowledge and expertise of the game and business of football — a Trio with commitment, experience and ability.“

Update: The new Executive team was also formed during the meeting. Cal Blankendal, 1st Vice-President, Andrew Griffith, Treasurer, ran unopposed, while Gregory Grimes, 2nd, Vice-President position was not up for re-election. Five new members were elected to for the committee; Mark Wade, Shannon Burgess, Anthony Hunter, Stephen Coddington, and Dwayne Adams. While Anthony Francis, Thaaqib Talbot, Shequita Parsons, and Troy Brimmer resume as members of the committee. Mr. Mussenden made history last night becoming the first President to be re-elected after losing the post to Richard Calderon in 2008. He first served as President in 2001 and served seven years until 2008.

We have been done this road before and it was a train wreck. This groups ill conceived collection of ideas had no cohesiveness and therefore it was no surprise that the FA spun out of control and football players and coaches were denied an opportunity to develop and our hard earned taxes were wasted.

Maybe this time they will simply follow the strategic plan that was created by the most recent executive. It is idiot proof and just needs to followed..

Hopefully he will find time for local football related affairs and spend less time doing FIFA’s work.. The game suffered immensely for 7 years, I pray that he has learned something over the past 2 years…It is okay to copy..Just do it!!!

Football clubs have just elected the same person that they kicked to the football curb 2 years ago..Sad, disturbing and insane.. Having said ,these same people most likely voted in Ewart…

Clubs are at the heart of problems in our game. Look at the absolute destruction of a once proud Dev Colts by what can only be described as an Executive devoid of vision, discipline, business nous and common sense management. Look at the once mighty Zebras. They were once Kings on the field and in club administartion. They have never replaced Nibs Lewis and who could have envisioned this club not playing football in Warwick for the past decade. Geez!!!! Having said that, look at their current administration..

With the above as a backdrop is there anyone out there optimistic that this under performers have wrestled control of the BFA.. Hold on boys and girls. The ride is going to be bumpy…..
