Managing Finances Without Prince Charming

September 8, 2010

“Managing Your Finances without Prince Charming” is one of the three free seminars that AFL Investments will host that are tailored exclusively for women on September 22 and 23. There are three seminars, all of which are free to attend and will be held at the Argus Training Centre in the new Argus Building at 14 Wesley Street in Hamilton.

First: The Changing Role of Women and Wealth on Sept 22

  • The series will begin with a session on the ‘The Changing Role of Women and Wealth,’ which will investigate how women can secure financial empowerment, thus breaking through the final barrier to gender equality. It will explore the economic power of women and the changing market place, as well as advise women on how to achieve wealth goals and select the right investments. This seminar will take place on Wednesday, September 22, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., and a light lunch will be provided.

Second: Managing Your Finances without Prince Charming on Sept 23

  • The second seminar, entitled ‘Managing Your Finances without Prince Charming,’ will address how women can take control of their financial situation after divorce or the loss of a spouse. It will help individuals to pinpoint their starting position, create a strategy and select the right investments in order to work towards financial freedom. This seminar will be held on Thursday, September 23, from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Breakfast will be provided.

Third: Investing 101 for Women on Sept 23

  • The series will culminate with an ‘Investing 101 for Women’ seminar designed to offer first-time investors advice on how to get started. It will outline the difference between saving and investing, and explore some of the issues facing female investors today. This seminar will take place Thursday, September 23, from 12:00 p.m. to 1.30 p.m. and will be accompanied by a light lunch.

The series will feature a guest speaker, Julie Card, Managing Director of Ascent Investment Management Inc. Ms. Card also holds the position of Portfolio Manager for the Ascent Relative Value Fund, Ltd. and chairs the Ascent Investment Committee. She has 20 years of experience in the investment industry and is a Fellow of both the Society of Actuaries and of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries.

Cindy Campbell, Chief Operating Officer of AFL Investments, says: “After decades of increasing education and income, as well as greater participation in the upper levels of the workplace, women now hold an unprecedented amount of financial power. We have designed this seminar series to help them unleash this power by equipping them with the knowledge to better manage their finances, along with a greater understanding of the investment opportunities available to them. We are delighted to welcome Julie Card to the island to share her expertise with local female investors.”

Interested individuals can register by emailing RSVP “at” aflinvestments.bm or calling Tina Basden at 294-5709 and specifying which seminar they would like to attend. Places are limited.
