Video: Attorney General Post-Throne Speech
Attorney General and Minister of Justice Michael Scott spoke after yesterday’s [Nov 5] Throne Speech saying the Ministry seeks to “strike an appropriate balance between the administration of justice and effective rehabilitation.”
The Throne Speech had outlined steps the new administration will take to reduce the “violence that has plagued our community.” A Gang Task Force has been formed that will work with the US Consulate to strengthen the intelligence sharing between the two countries. In addition the possible formation of a second Police Support Unit was mentioned.
Mark Pettingill, BDA Spokesperson for Justice and National Security, addressed the Throne Speech saying “Whilst we support initiatives to end the scourge of gang violence what was noticeable was that the Government tried to talk in terms that something was new or that they were a new government! They have announced new legislation like the Bail Act without implementing the last Bail Act. We have real problems in crime and we need real solutions, not names changes and putting the same people in different seats of responsibility. Less announcements and more action is required!”
