Multiple Shots Fired at Car: No Injuries
At around 9pm last night [Dec 16], a car was shot at when traveling along Deepdale Road West near the junction with Happy Valley Road. The Police said “initial forensic examination would suggest that a number of shots had been fired at the car.” Fortunately the driver [a 32 year old man] was not injured.
Police say “The vehicle was driven away from the scene and the incident reported a short time later to the police by a relative of the man. Officers immediately attended the area of the shooting and conducted inquiries.” An active investigation into this incident is underway. Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with any information to contact the Serious Crime Unit on 295-0011. Information can also be called in anonymously to the independent, confidential Crime Stoppers Bermuda hotline on 800-8477.
This is the third reported firearm incident this month, following the firearm incident in the Bridge View Lane, Sandys parish area on December 13th and the attempted shooting of two men in the Crane Lane area of North Shore Road, Pembroke on December 8th.

Wait, so was it two people, or was the driver the sole occupant?
As always, glad to hear that no one was injured, and I hope the individuals who have knowledge of this crime come forward with that information.
We can go at this two ways.
1) Allow the average citizen to be able to own a hand gun. Studies show that here in the U.S. all counties that allow citizens to carry, the crime rate plummets)or
2) The police know more or less where most of the trouble is coming from. Go into every single home and shack in those areas, turn the place upside down and confiscate every weapon.
I, myself go for option number one. Any body comes into my castle shall go out either in a body bag or crippled. Either way leave my family, my stuff and me alone.
For (1): Or is it that counties with high crime try to ban gun ownership to reduce crime rates? The connection isn’t clear — a counter-example to “if everyone has guns we will have peace” is Iraq, where despite (or because of?) high levels of private gun ownership there is a lot of violence and crime.
One possibility is that violent crime is caused by factors other than weapons accessibility and we need to address the underlying problems.
2) I think number 2 is the more efficient route to take if the public do not see 100- 200 police officers and swat teams turning houses upside down then eventually yes the public will probably start arming themselves which will be unfortunate cause it means we feel the police and our government cant protect us,and in a small island like Bermuda this problem could have been fixed a long time ago.the police cant do it once and then think everything is ok consitent shake downs will have to happen, but its not happening and the question is why not? We wait for problems to go away in bda but this is a problem that will only get worse no matter how many shootings takes,if nobody is going to stand up and say enough is enough there will always be someone around to exploit that and do what they want to and shoot who they want to.
@joe: If only you were the average joe. It is true that if criminals new that almost anybody can own a weapon it takes their feeling of grandiosity away. It neutralizes the situation. Now I’d rather no-one had guns like it was at one time but unfortunately that has changed. I’d vote to arm the common citizen and lets do battle with these gangster killers destroying our country.
And then we could battle the racists ehh!
LOL
yeah the crime rate in the US has plummeted because people are legally allowed to own guns, right?
anyway as much as i feel inclined to shoot someone who breaks into my property, if you lived here you would know that that situation could never work. it’s too small here. if i shot an intruder, their gang friends would not rest until i was dead in the ground, believe that. no matter how justified you might be in shooting someone with your legally owned gun, you can be sure you’d be on their hit list until someone eventually killed you. there’s no way on earth they would let that slide. given that bermuda is only 21 miles, you’d spend your few remaining days looking over your shoulder- armed or not.
And the irony is “root” it is happening in Bermuda. Your points are valid but does it mean we just give up?
Garbage I say. Take the bull by the horns and lead them too slauter.
Oops…that won’t work because ‘my son, such a nice boy, just turned his life around after he shot the guy.’ His father, who’s doing ten years in Westagte and I have no control. I have 6 children to feed and IB is leaving…….
Yeah..well we made it all these years and thats why we are here due to our parents sacrifice.
Greed and it’s all the UBP’s fault, and if the english had not run around…we could be another Haiti………
So blessed we are and such an emerald isle with no leadership.
Man all of you are all over the place on this one. Shootings are like riots and other anti social behavior. It happens on streets and in neighborhoods they operate in and can get away with it. Besides, there is more to this story. When was the last time an innocent person was victimized. Unfortunately, the poor guy in Crawl was visiting a home when he was shot and killed in a drive-by, which is the reason I don’t go to family functions when ever one particular in-law is invited.
Well ‘itwasn’tme’, next go. Take away his gun or let them know he’s showing up and packing heat…(not mac-cheese or fried chicken)
