Bermudian Celebrates “Men of Valour”
Although former Bermuda Broadcasting Company programming director Chuck (Chris) Welch no longer rules the island’s airwaves, he’s found a new outlet for his creativity with his art.
Now working at Brooklyn’s UrbanGlass — the largest centre in the US offering comprehensive studio facilities to artists working in glass — Mr. Welch will be exhibiting his work in his mother’s home town of Newport News, Virginia at the end of January.
“With every brush stroke divinely inspired, Chris Welch’s art is a uniquely personal experience,” says the programme for “Native Sons: Men of Valour”, a group exhibit celebrating African-American men which features the work of five photographers and visual artists with ties to Newport News.
” … Born in Bermuda, Chris’ palette is greatly influenced from growing up surrounded by the natural beauty of the island.
“From paintings to glass work each artistic endeavor is rooted in faith and is divinely inspired, giving the viewer a deeply personal survey of the life of an artist. Employed at UrbanGlass in Brooklyn, New York, Chris’ daily objective is to be a student of life, faith and art and have the world’s meet on his canvas.”
A nationally-renowned radio personality in the US as well as Bermuda, Mr. Welch recently collaborated on the “ABC’s of African Americans” book series with Michelle Gilliam and Patricia Ross.
