Bus Cancellations: Tuesday, April 26
The daily list of bus cancellations for today [Apr.26] is out, with ten daytime routes cancelled today. The cancellations are being done with an aim for the Department of Public Transportation to conserve funds by reducing overtime payments and stay within their allocated budget for the year, which has been reduced from the previous year.
Yesterday BIU President Chris Furbert said the Minister is “punishing the public, he is punishing tourists, for saying if someone calls in sick , even if they have a doctor’s certificate, he will not cover their work, and that is morally wrong.”

Hooky party @ PTB!!! Yaaaayyy!!
If this is to save money, why don’t they know which buses are to be cancelled until each morning?
Sounds like sickies to me.
There are only four substitute drivers. Once more than four people call in sick, then PTB has to look at what buses need to be cancelled. That is why each day is different.
“Dear Valued Customer” ??????
Micro – management at it’s macro .Why not just cancel every run except the express runs in the am and pm ?
How can legitimate sickness possibly affect so many drivers each day?? PTB should should be studied as the ratio of healthy to unhealthy drivers must be one of the highest in Bermuda, if not the world.
If Chris Furbert honestly believes that on any given day 4 or more drivers are actually sick I have a bridge to nowhere to sell him.
What utter fullishness.
Absolute nonsense.
And now tourists are to be denied bus boarding so locals further down the line can get seats. Silly me, I thought all those 1000s of tourist at Dockyard had special buses to take them to the beach and back. What ever was I thinking?
Why doesn’t someone call EB to account over all this?
because EB started the mess and we all know it… now we’re looking to the person to fix it, but he just seems to be making it worse…
Fire ALL the bus drivers and re hire those who actually want to work. Fill the rest with Philipinos.
