Carifta: Two More Medals For Bermuda
Bermuda’s young track and field athletes have pushed Bermuda’s Carifta medal tally to six, after both Shaquille Dill and Bruce DeGrilla won silver medals during yesterday’s [Apr.25] competition in Jamaica.
Shaquille Dill captured the silver medal when he finished second in the U/20 Boy’s 800m race. He clocked 1:50.90, finishing 0.69 of a second behind Antonio Mascoll from Barbados. This is his second consecutive year winning the silver medal in the Carifta 800m.
Bruce DeGrilla also won a silver medal when his fifth leap of 6.94m saw him finish second in the U/17 Boy’s Long Jump, meanwhile Chas Smith finished 5th with his best leap of 6.62m.
Kyrah Scraders, who has already won a medal in the 2011 Carifta, finished 5th in the U/17 Girls 800m race with a time of 2:19.53. Tristan Joynes finished 7th competing in the U/20 Boy’s 110m Hurdles with a time of 15.26.
Juma Mouchette finished 8th in the U/20 Boy’s 5000m with a time of 16:53.10, while Shawn Herman finished 8th clocking 16:58.18.
The U/17 Girls 4×400 Relay Bermuda team finished 5th with a time of 4:00.40. Khianda Pearman-Watson competing in the U/ 20 Girls High Jump finished 8th with a leap of 1.60m.
Bermuda had already won four medals in the Carifta Games; Ashley Berry in the 3000m, Dage Minors in the 3000m, Kyrah Scraders in the 1500m and Justin Donawa in the triple jump.
