BSX: Four Decades of Securities Trading
The Bermuda Stock Exchange [BSX] is celebrating its fortieth anniversary and, to mark the milestone, has produced a commemorative publication entitled “Four Decades of Securities Trading”.
From ping pong balls to state-of-the-art technology the publication traces the Exchange’s vibrant forty-year history and seeks to offer insight into the Exchange’s pivotal role in the continuing development of the capital market in Bermuda.
BSX President & Chief Executive Officer Greg Wojciechowski explains further: “The Bermuda Stock Exchange has grown from very humble beginnings to become the world’s largest offshore, fully electronic securities market offering a full range of listing and trading opportunities for international and domestic issuers and we thought it appropriate to mark the occasion of our fortieth anniversary with an archival review of our journey.”
“We felt it was important to do this now to give all those who were involved in the creation and development of the Exchange the recognition they deserved. Our researcher spent countless hours reviewing old Minutes of meetings going back to 1971 and interviewing many of the Exchange’s founders. It is an interesting story and one which the BSX wants to share with the entire community.”
The publication is prefaced with a message from the Secretary General of the World Federation of Exchanges, Thomas Krantz and a congratulatory message from Bermuda Monetary Authority Chief Executive Officer Jeremy Cox.
Also featured in the publication is a contributing article from former Exchange President & CEO William Woods who is now the Managing Director of the Canadian National Stock Exchange.
Mr. Wojciechowski concluded by noting; “As Mr. Cox, notes in the publication, the BSX has played an important role in the continued attractiveness of the jurisdiction as a domicile of choice for international business. It is important that Bermudians understand the significant impact the Exchange has had on our shared financial success and its role as a regulator. We would encourage anyone who is interested in learning more about the Exchange to order a complimentary copy of the publication from our website www.bsx.com”
