Young Progressives National Heroes Convention
The Bermuda Young Progressives said they wish to clear up any confusion regarding the Heritage celebrations of the National Heroes Convention. On May 1st, Minister of Youth, Families, Sports and Community Development Glenn Blakeney refuted any suggestion that Young Progressives National Heroes plan was in association with Governments.
The Young Progressives said, “The National Heroes Convention to be held on May 14th 2011 is not part of the PLP Government program but has been called by supporters of the Young Progressives within the Bermuda community. It is a grassroots convention of celebration and nominations for our “Community” based heroes.”
“It was Mr. Gershwin Smith Shiloh, his committee along with community activists that came up with the names for its selection of National Heroes to be honored this Saturday May 14th at City Hall.”
“The Bermuda Young Progressives also has been compiling a list of “Community Heroes” such as Austin Thomas, Fern Wade, Ottiwell Simmons, Rolland Hill and Clarence Hill. These Community heroes will be also honored this Heritage month at our other community events such as the “National Heroes Peace and Love Children’s Picnic “ to be held on June 24 at Shelly Bay.”
