Football: 2010 Lindo’s ISL Season Preview
Andrew Bascome and the 2010 Lindo’s ISL Champion Storm start their title defense on Saturday night June 18th against the Ace Insurance Blue division rival Knights. The Knights are one of a handful of teams that have the capability to take away the Storm’s title.
Keishon Smith’s Knights were undefeated in the 2010 regular season and return leading scorers Vincent Minors Jr and Ian Coke. The Knights also bring back ISL All Star Defender Coolidge Durham, and drafted former Arsenal GK Nigel Burgess to shore up their backline.
The Titans return their leading scorer, Kyle Jones, and Apex strengthened their squad taking GK Daniel Johnson with the first overall pick. Johnson hopes to be as much of an impact stopping goals as Striker Jahron Dickinson has been scoring them for the Apex.
The G.E.T. Security Red Division will be hotly contested as well. The Division Champion Kings return the high powered scoring combination of Rui Furtardo and Aquino Grant. They also bring back one of the best Keepers in the league in Troy Hall. Hall is helped by defender Cud-Joe Matthews, and the Kings added veteran Quincy Aberdeen in the draft.
The Kings will be challenged once again by John Barry Nusum and the Arsenal. Nusum took his squad all the way to the finals in his rookie season as head coach. The dynamic duo of Cecoy Robinson and Ralph Bean Jr. return for Arsenal, and they are anchored by maybe the best defense in the league with defenders Ijahmon Mallory and Hopde Burrows. GK Jason Smith will take over full time duty in the net after sharing time with Nigel Burgess last season.
The Union return Jamel Swan, and hope that the 2009 Lindo’s ISL leading scorer Dennis Russell returns to form. Royal second year coach Keith Jennings will rely heavily on his leading scorer in 2010, Darrin Dowling, and hopes that All Star Defender Michael Williams repeats his 2010 performance. The Royal will also be aided by the return of the versatile Adrian Burrows. Zane Hendrickson returns in goal for the Royal in 2011.
Tickets are now on sale and can be purchased for $10 at all Lindo’s, and Sidekicks locations. They can also be purchased at the International Sports Store, the BFA, and the Pro Shop. 2011 Lindo’s ISL schedules are free and available at all ticket locations.
