Mr. Happy Man Gets Happy Results
Wherever you may see him, no matter if the weather is rain, blow or shine; it seems that many people are in love with Johnny Barnes.
Internationally known as Mr. Happy Man, Johnny Barnes, an 85-year-old resident of Bermuda, has dedicated his life to bringing a smile to people’s faces.
For nearly three decades, Johnny Barnes spends hours waving, blowing kisses, and greeting all those who pass with “I love you,” sometimes he even stops to pray with tourists for a safe journey home. Johnny Barnes has become the most beloved man in Bermuda, with many people now globally referring to him as “Mr. Happy Man.”
The film Mr Happy Man, featuring Mr Barnes, had its world premiere in the Bermuda International Film Festival earlier this year while it has also screened at Aspen Shorts fest; the most prestigious short film festival in the United States to a great audience response.
According to film director Matt Morris, “Everyone loves Johnny, and his message. Johnny has a lot to share about what it takes to be optimistic, and happy in life, and I believe everyone who can’t see him in person will benefit from a film about his life.”
Mr. Happy Man won an Honorable Mention from the Documentary Grand Jury at the Nashville Film Festival this year, and was accepted to AFI/Discovery Channel’s Silverdocs; one of the best documentary film festivals. Other festivals that have accepted the film include Palm Springs Shorts fest, Independent Film Festival Boston, Mountainfilm Telluride, and also Maine’s International Film Festival.
Matt Morris appears very ecstatic with the results of the film as he mentions that he has been told from more than one fan that they plan to visit Bermuda just to meet Mr. Happy Man in person. Matt Morris states, “When I was in Bermuda for the premiere of the film, my girlfriend noticed that Johnny needed a new hat. So when we got back to Florida, she went out and got the hat that Johnny is now wearing!”
Mr. Happy Man DVD’s are now available at the Bermuda Book Store in Hamilton. The DVD contains the full documentary with special features including interviews, deleted scenes and a film festival Q&A.
