Arsenal Defeat Knights To Win ISL Championship
The Arsenal won a hard fought match and defeated the Knights 6-5 to win their first ever Lindo’s ISL Championship. Fabian Frankson scored two fourth quarter goals including the game winner 11 minutes into the 4th quarter to propel Arsenal to the victory.
The Arsenal scored in the first minute of the match and seemed to be one step ahead of the Knights for the entire match. The Knights tied the match at one on an Ian Coke goal later in the first quarter. Logan Alexander made it 2-1 scoring in the 8th minute of the second quarter. The Knights responded again with a Keston Lewis goal to tie the game at two at the half.
Arsenal scored first to start the third quarter when a Cornell Castle corner kick squirted thru the hands of Knights GK Nigel Burgess and onto the foot of Ralph Bean. Bean scored to make it 3-2. Lozendro Symonds evened the match at three 6 minutes into the third quarter, but Jason Davis answered that goal three minutes later to give Arsenal a 4-3 lead heading to the 4th quarter.
Fabian Frankson gave Arsenal their first two two-goal lead of the game when he scored in the first minute of the fourth quarter. The Knights responded with two straight goals. Robert Richardson scored from a bad angle to cut the lead to one. Ian Coke converted a penalty shot after being fouled by Arsenal GK Jason Smith in the box. Moments later the Knights were awarded a shootout after the Arsenal were shown their third yellow card of the match. Shayne Hollis had an opportunity to give the Knights their first lead of the game. Arsenal GK Jason Smith was up to the challenge as he denied Hollis and kept the game square at five. Fabian Frankson scored his second goal of the quarter in the 11th minute to give Arsenal a lead they would never relinquish. The Knights had opportunities down the stretch, but could not beat Smith and The Arsenal held on for the 6-5 victory.
What a game! Such excitement and tense moments. Had me on the edge of my seat the entire game. Great game guys and hats of to the KNIGHTS. You fought hard a long but a victory was not to be. Your still my KNIGHT in shining armour.
