ISl Soccer: Knights, Arsenal, Kings Win
The playoff picture is coming into focus as we head into the last week of the Lindo’s ISL regular season.
The Knights won their 11th straight regular season game, defeating the Titans 8-5. The Knights get the bye in the Ace Insurance Blue Division. The Arsenal took care of business in the G.E.T. Limited Red Division, locking up the bye with their 8-5 win over the Union.
The Kings took down the Royal and punched their playoff ticket with a 7-5 victory.
Vincent Minors stole the show in game one scoring five goals for the Knights. Striker Keston Lewis scored twice. Aaron Nelson scored twice for the Titans. The Titans need to win on Tuesday against the Storm to have any hope of making the playoffs.
Game two was touted as a battle of the two best goal-scorers in the league when Cecoy Robinson and the Arsenal faced off against Jason Lee and the Union. Robinson or Lee would not be much of a factor on the sheet. The Arsenal defense shut out Lee, and Robinson didn’t score his first and only goal until late in the fourth quarter. R
alph Bean scored twice and Ijahmon Mallory scored his first goal of the season to support GK Daniel Adams’ 10 save effort. Tristan Daniels scored twice for the Union.
Sunday’s night cap saw the Kings slip past the Royal 7-5. Jahnai Raynor and Kahmisi Lightbourne scored two goals for the Kings. The Royal were awarded three shootout opportunities and a Penalty Kick in the game.
They were only able to convert the Penalty Kick. Clay Darrell scored on a rebound after Kings GK Troy Hall made the initial save. Royal GK Zane Hendrickson made 16 saves for the Royal.
This week is the last week of the regular season. Tuesday it’s the Ace Insurance Blue Division. The Apex take on the Knights and the Storm battle the Titans. The regular season wraps up on Thursday when the G.E.T. Limited Red Division plays. Royal take on Union and the Arsenal battle the Kings. The Lindo’s ISL playoffs get underway on July 12 with the Championship game set for July 17th.
An audio recap from the weekend’s ISL action is below:
Thanks Bernews for posting all the highlights on the ISL… As I am there often there are not many people who show up but I must say that I have enjoyed myself watching the games.
Bermudians tend to complain that there is nothing to do on the island but I find the ISL a fun and friendly place to spend an afternoon or evening with the family.
Big shout out to all the are invloved from the staff to all the players who I see playing hard and wanting their team to win. To the ISL Commissioner David keep up the great work.. I will continue to support you as I do enjoy the whole atmosphere.
