Results: ISL 1st Round Playoffs
The Union defeated the Apex 9-5 and the Kings downed the Titans 7-5 in Lindo’s ISL first round playoff action last night [July 12] at National Sports Centre. The two clubs move on to play in Thursday night’s semi-finals.
The Union used a balanced attack and some spectacular goalkeeping from Treadwell Gibbons to defeat the Apex 9-5. Jahmel Swan, Marco Warren, and Jason Lee each scored a pair of goals and Gibbons turned aside 20 Apex shots. Jahron Dickinson scored twice in a losing effort for the Apex. The Union overcame a 2-0 1st quarter deficit by going on a three goal run and led 5-3 at the half. They increased their lead to 7-3 in the third quarter and cruised to victory from there.
The Kings outlasted the Titans 7-5 in Tuesday night’s second Match. Rui Furtardo, Khamisi Lightbourne, and Jahnai Raynor each scored twice to provide the offense. The Kings took control in the second quarter by scoring three of four second quarter goals and led 4-2 at the half. The Titans battled back to tie the game at 4-4 at the end of the third quarter.
Jahnai Raynor’s goal put the Kings ahead for good in the 4th. Jamie Smith had a chance to tie the game for the Titans midway thru the quarter, but his Penalty Shot hit off the post. Lightbourne and Raynor tallied to put the game out of reach later in the fourth. The Kings overcame a hat trick by Titans MF Lonnie Bascome.
Between games Justin Bell, a 13 year old who attends Whitney Middle School, won a $100 gift certificate to Lindo’s by winning the Bend it Like Bascome shoot-out. Each night throughout the playoffs one lucky fan will win a $100 gift certificate to Lindo’s if they can bend it like Bascome.
Thursday night’s Semi-final action has the Arsenal taking on the Union at 7:30 and the Knights battling the Kings at 8:45 pm. Tickets are now on sale for Thursday’s Semi-finals and Sunday’s Final, and can be purchased for $10 at all Lindo’s, and Sidekicks locations.
