golf ball genericPlans are well underway for the 2011 staging of Bermuda’s longest-running golf event, the 59th annual Bermuda Goodwill Golf Tournament.

The event which runs from December 5th-9th, offers golfers the chance to play some of the finest golf courses in Bermuda during a four-day best-ball stroke play competition among pro-am teams from the United States, Canada, Europe and Bermuda. Pro-am teams are comprised of one club professional and three amateurs. Early registrants include teams from as far away as Ontario, Canada, Utah, North Carolina and Pennsylvania.

“We are very excited to host our 59th annual Bermuda Goodwill,” said Alex Madeiros. “The Bermuda Goodwill has become a long-standing golf tradition and we are eager to welcome an international field of pros and amateurs in December. With the addition of Riddell’s Bay Golf & Country Club – Bermuda’s oldest course — to our tournament rotation this year, golfers and spectators alike will enjoy great golf among Bermuda’s finest fairways.”

The tournament field will be divided into four flights and teams will play 18 holes each at Port Royal Golf Club, Belmont Hills Golf Club, Riddell’s Bay Golf & Country Club and Mid Ocean Club. There will be prizes galore, including daily team low gross and low net, long drive contests and closest to the pin competitions.

Professionals will compete in a 72-hole Stableford tournament and the professional purse will be divided into three sections: Men’s Junior Division, Men’s Senior Division (50+) and the Ladies Division. In 2010, a ladies division was officially added and these teams can include a male or female club professional and three female amateurs.
