Hardy Ltd. Youth Sailing Series Continues

Four more races in the RBYC’s Autumn Series sponsored by Hardy Ltd. were sailed on the Great Sound this past Sunday.

A total of twenty-two [11 Gold and 11 Silver fleet] optimist sailors from the Bda Optimist Dinghy Association [BODA] competed in the challenging light and shifty conditions, just south of Shaw Park in Spanish Point.

Rory Caslin [pictured below] was the Gold Fleet winner for the day by 1 point over Chase Cooper and was 10 points ahead of Antonio Bailey. In the Silver Fleet Matilda Nicholls finished the day 2 points ahead of Kieran Swann and 10 points ahead of Joe Arrowsmith.

Overall for the Hardy Series in the Gold Fleet, Chase Cooper has an 8 point lead over Rory Caslin and is 18 points ahead of third placed Antonio Bailey.

In the Silver Fleet Matilda Nicholls is the series leader by 5 points over Kieran Swann and she is 19 points ahead of Joe Arrowsmith. The Hardy Autumn Series #1 is now at it’s halfway mark with approximately 10 more races to go.

Next Sunday the RHADC will host the Fall Optimist Championship which wil be a 2011 World Championship Team qualifier event for the BODA sailors.

Also this past Sunday, the RHADC hosted the budding Green Fleet optimist sailors in Hamilton Harbour on Sunday. There was a large turnout ofover 30 sailors from different clubs. The Green Fleet consists of novice sailors that are eager to try their hand at learning how to race.

Green Fleet races allow on-the-water coaching for the back half of the fleet and has a strong emphasis on fun while learning in a relaxed setting. Prizes and recognition were given to the sailors at the RHADC following the racing.

Two more Green Fleet race days are scheduled this fall season as well as a clinic with legendary Green Fleet coach Tom Coleman, sponsored by Riihiluoma’s Flying Colours.
