Man Fined $1,000 For Marijuana Possession

Thirty-nine year-old Darin Hewey was fined $1,000 for possession of 6.8 grams of marijuana in Magistrates Court this morning [Sept.16].

Mr Hewey had pleaded guilty and the DPP’s evidence was that he had been stopped on 28th May 2011 on King Street in Hamilton during a special Police stop-n-search operation.

Police said that Mr Hewey smelt of cannabis resin and on being searched they found a twist in his left hand. On later analysis, the twist was found to contain 6.8 grams of Cannabis Resin.

Magistrate Archie Warner gave Mr Hewey until 16th October to settle his fine.

    What’s so special about that? I was once stopped and surrounded by 4 police officers for walking in the rain. Thought I was going to ‘fall over and hit my head on wall’

    I just don’t understand it… these young guys get busted left, right, and centre, then get fined astronomical sums of money for having a few grams of herb on them – yet these losers still refuse to change their ways. But they gotta change their ways – to avoid arrest.

    Here’s my idea! Don’t carry weed with you when you’re riding around on your bike at night!! Hide it under a rock somewhere.
